Note: per Faris (1999) p. 69: [quote] KATHERINE CAREY, was born about 1524 in the midst of her mother's affair with King Henry VIII, evidently the daughter of the latter, rather than of her mother's husband, William Carey [see TUDOR 3 for the ancestry of King HENRY VIII]. She was married about 1539 to FRANCIS KNOLLYS, Knt., K.G., of Caversham and Rotherfield Greys, co. Oxford, Knight of the Shire for Oxfordshire, son and heir of Robert Knollys, of Rotherfield Greys, by Lettice, daughter of Thomas Peynston, Knt., of Hawridge, co. Buckingham. He was born by 1512, and, having displayed bravery at fighting in Scotland at Pinkie, was knighted in September 1528. They had seven sons and four daughters. In 1533, after the accession of Queen Mary, he and his wife left for the Continent. In 1555 he was a student at Basle, and they resided thereafter at Frankfurt until the accession of his cousin Queen Elizabeth. He was Vice Chamberlain of the Household and Treasurer to the Household of Queen Elizabeth. She was Chief Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Elizabeth. She died at Hampton Court, while in attendance on the Queen, on 15 Jan. 1568/9, and was buried at Queen Elizabeth's expense in the equivalent of a royal burial at St. Edmund's Chapel, Westminster Abbey. Frauncys Knollys, K.G., of Caversham, Oxford died testate (P.C.C., 67 Drake) on 19 July 1596. Swyncombe and Ewelme (1858), pp. 360-373. CF. 4:160 (1916). Bindoff (1982) 2:479-481 (he was to rank high at court and in government. He sat in every one of Elizabeth's Parliaments until 1593 and at his death ... he was the last surviving Member of the Parliament of 1529). Gen.Mag. 25:345-352 (March 1997) (evidence presented by Anthony Hoskins for considering Katherine the base-born daughter of King Henry VIII) (Katherine's brother Henry was called the Kynge's son in a contemporary (1535) source, quoting a man who was executed two weeks later for denying the king's supremacy; evidence that William Carey did not father his putative children; the paternal interest shown by King Henry to Katherine and Henry, as well as the extraordinary favour shown them by Queen Elizabeth). Child of Francis Knollys, by Katherine Carey: i. ANNE KNOLLYS, married THOMAS WEST [see HUMPHREY 3].1 [end quote] 1
