Uncle Fred to me was actually my great-uncle. I'm sad that I neverfigured
that out when I was young. He knew my grandfather quite well of coursethough
Grandfather died when my father was yet a child. Grandmother livedmore years
and made it long enough to meet my mother after her marriage to myfather.
Uncle Fred was a very special, very kind and generous man. He wasalways the
gentleman and held the post of patriarch of the entire community formany
years. He was, afterall, the President of the Sandy Spring FirstNational Bank
and the Savings Institution as well.
