Came to Sandy Spring from Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Their homewas Cherry Grove, built on 549 acres of the tract, Snowden's ManorEnlarged. The original house, cresting Parr's Ridge, half a mile south of what isnow Ashton, burned in 1772; only the kitchen survived the fire. The following year, the house was rebuilt, much as it is today (1981),with the kitchen one of its distinctive features.
