                   She drowned in the Boone River, when an overloaded ferry capsized inthe flood swollen river. Lost also with her, were her daughter Tirzah,the wife of Charles Addison SHERMAN and their infant daughter, Katie MSHERMAN.
Major Charles Addison Sherman, her son, was serving in the 11th.Pennsylvania Calvery during the Civil War at the time. He laterre-married Mary Anna Wood.

The collected documents of military records of Major Sherman from theNational Military Archeives (these include affidavits by his widowMary Anna Wood in application for widow's benefits. They attest to thecircumstances of the marriage, etc.); Major Sherman died, aged 77.
He was born in Bennington County, Vermont where he lived until agefifteen, when he moved to Lowell, Massachusetts. He lived there foreight years during which time he was employed as a Teller in theAppleton Bank.
In September, 1855, he went to Iowa and settled at Fort Dodge. Heengaged in the banking and land agency business as well as beingPostmaster (noted below), following the same until 1861.
Charles had been Postmaster of Dodge City, Iowa at the outbreak of theCivil War and was, as a result of federal service already, exempt fromservice. He served nonetheless and with distinction.
It was during the war that his first wife and daughter and his ownmother, were tragically drowned in a ferry accident. They werereturning home after a visit with Charles, who apparently met them,while on leave, probably in Pennsylvania.
At the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted (1861) as a Private inCompany A, going directly to Washington, D.C. where his Company wasassigned to the Eleventh Pennsylvania Cavelry already posted inWashington, D.C..
He was appointed Sargeant of his Company and in April, 1862, was madeQuartermaster of the Regiment. He held that position until he wasmustered out of service, having been elevated to the rank of Major, bythe close of the war. By then he had served for nearly four years.
In July, 1865 he went to Boone County, locating in Boonesboro, Iowa.There he engaged in railroading and operating in coal. He was laterelected President of the Iowa Railway Coal and Manufacturing Companyof Boonesboro, Iowa.
Descendents of Major Charles Addison Sherman meet the entrancerequirements of Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (1881) AND/ORthe Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (1865).
