                   Called James Brooke, the Elder.  A Colonal in the Revolutionary War(find unit). Also married JAN 1725.  Also married 21 JUN 1725. FromChronicles of Sandy Spring Friend's Meeting and Environs,  The firstpermanent settlers of Sandy Spring, Montgomery, Maryland.  Called theyoungest or the Ironmaster.
Moved from their plantation, Birmingham Manor, which lay at the GreatForks of the Patuxent River near present-day Laurel. James andDebeorah had made the journey on horseback. They arrived at their newhome called Charley Forest, situated on an 889 acre tract of land ofthe same name, Brooke had recently purchased. Called the first of thefamily seated at Brooke Grove.
Their home, a log house framed (Maryland's earliest style ofarchitecture after the wigwam), stood until 1913, a short distance offBrooke Road, a quarter mile north of the present Sandy Spring postoffice.
