Lafayette, Commander of Continental Army troops, for the Battle of the
Brandywine, during the Revolutionary War.
On his triumphal return tour after the war, the Marquis went to theGilpin
home and while visiting with his old friend, described Gideon as thegreatest
patriot of the revolutionary war effort.
Gideon is a grandparent of the Prophet Spencer W. Kimball, latePresident of
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
