He was Selectman of the town and Commissioner to hearand determine small causes. He was Deputy to the General Court fromNewbury in 1638 and nearly every year thereafter until 1650. He was calledSecretary of the (Massachusetts) Colony. He was a persecuter of the Quakers, a terrible blot on an otherwisereputable and productive personal history.
