Barmore came to Bridgeport, Connecticut when he was 21years old. He was a Mason and had had a contracting business later on.S.R.Barmore & He, his wife, and all the children were members of the First MethodistChurch at the corner of Broad and Fairfield Avenues, Bridgeport, Connecticut aswere several of his grandchildren. He was for years a church trustee, amember of the Arcanum Lodge L.O.O.F. #41. After their marriage in 1876, they set up housekeeping on ProspectStreet. Prospect Street Grammer School stood on the left side betweenLafayette and Broad Street where most of the children went to school, and twograndchildren, Gertrude and Verna Barmore. A home for Widows (still stands in 1968) The Sterling Home was closerto Park Avenue and son Henry Lockwood fell from a cherry tree and broke hisarm there when he was very small. The broken arm was discovered at night when hecould not raise his arm to suck his thumb. Stephen moved to New York City to go into business with his brotherRobert in 1879, but in 6 months returned to Bridgeport, Connecticut. His wifewas very lonesome and homesick down there and she told me in Pittsburg,Pennsylvania when she visited us in 1929, that she sat by the window and cried allday until he could not stand her tears any longer. Their next home was on Harrel Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut, whereHenry Lockwood (my father) was born-2nd. child. Edith May had been born onProspect Street. In 1883, a new house was built on Black Rock Avenue where thenext six children were born. They also owned the house next door, and had livedthere at some time (250 Blck Rock Avenue) where I lived as a child and VernaIrene was born. In 1897 they moved to 2646 Fairfield Avenue, Black Rock, Connecticut,where Mildred Burr was born in 1900.
