Mr. Hallowell was gunned down during a hold-up of the Sandy SpringNational Bank (Sandy Spring, Maryland) where he was an executive. He wassomewhat hard of hearing. The armed robber told him to put up his hands. Mr.Hallowell reached into his coat, apparently in an effort to turn up the volumeof his hearing aid, and he was shot to death. This story was related to me bymy father when I was a young man (JFN,1997).
He married Sarah Miller 16 Jul 1857 . Sarah Miller was born at Alexandria, Virginia 24 Feb 1836 daughter of Robert Hartshorne Miller and Anna Janney .
