Washington Co, RI was created from Newport Co, RI., 1729 Referring to Richard Bailey; The Application by Miss Lynne Edington Swanson formembership in the DAR # 732297 reads; My ancestor's services during the Revolutionary War "while acting in the capacity of Patriot & Major of Militia" were; 1. Richard Bailey, Sr. was the fifth signer of the Rhode Island Declaration of Independence 4 May 1776 2. He served as a deputy of the town of Richmondin the Rhode Island General Assembly May 1776 and again May 177 3. Marriage Certificate reads: Richard Bailey & Abigail Woodmansee.
