John Pederson Died Friday Morning
Mr. John Pedersen, longtime resident and highly esteemed and successful
farmer of this community, died at his farm home northwest of Jewell at
9:15 o'clock last Friday morning. He died at the home where he had lived
almost continuously for more than sixty years; at the advanced old age of
90 years, 3 months and 16 days. His death was due to pneumonia and
aliments incidentto his old age.
John Pedersen was born in Denmark November 17, 1848 and diedMarch 3
1939. From Denmark he came to America in 1877, locating in Hamilton
County, Iowa on the farm near Jewell, and resided here ever since except
forone or two years that he lived at Randall.
He was the son of Peder and MarenJensen.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Denmark; and held
membership in the Danish Lutheran church in Jewell.
Mr. Pedersen was married to Lena Christopherson who died April 11, 1889.
Three children were bornto this union; two of whom, twins, died in
infancy, and one of whom, now MrsAnton Kolling, survives. He married
Anne Maria Nilsen November 29, 1889, at Jewell, Iowa: five children being
born to this union, all of whom survive. They are; Peter M., Anton N.,
and Mrs. Russell Bernsmeier, all of Jewell; Mrs. Harry Hanson, Of
Jackson, Minn.; and Carl G., of Story City. Other survivors include 22
grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and manyother
more distant relatives.
The funeral was held Tuesday at the home at 1:00 o'clock; Jesse B. Olson
singing a solo at the service; and at 2:00 o'clockat Bethesda Lutheran
church in Jewell, Mrs. Gail Stoneking and and Mrs. Yorke Johnson singing
two duets at this service, with Mrs. A. W. Knudson accompanying. The
Pastor, Rev. Carl Opsahl, conducted the service. Interment was in
Evergreen cemetery in Jewell. Those who served as pall bearers were six
of Mr. Pederson's grandsons; Berne Hanson, Johnie Kolling, Dean Peterson,
MarvinPeterson, Arling Peterson and Illiff Bernsmeier. The following
memorials weregiven; $15.00 to home missions by Mr. and Mrs. Anton
Kolling and family, Mrsand Mrs Peter M. Peterson......

Rasmus Pederson Kolling, Sr. bornin Hylisted, Denmark June 1, 1839 and
dies in his home March 10, 1919 at theage of 79 years 9 months and 17
days. He was united in marriage to Miss Helene Rasmussen on November 3,
1869 and to this union eight children were born all of who are living.
Mr. and Mrs. Kolling came to America in 1901 and made their home at
Williams for 6 months, after which they moved to Jewell where they have
since resided. The Deceased leaves to mourn his loss besides his wifeand
children, 35 grand-children, and 1 great-grandchild. The children are
Mrs. John Anderson of Denmark, Peter Kolling of Jewell, Hans Kolling of
Radcliffe, Mrs. J.C. Larson of Garner, Mrs. S.P. Jensen and Anton Kolling
of Jewell. The funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon at
1 o'clock conducted by Rev. E. A. Hjortsvang
