The News Sentinel, Monday, June 4, 1945 Mary Mullican Final rites will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock for Mrs. Mary MULLICAN, 58, who passed away at 12:40 o'clock Sunday morning at her home, 1122 Monroe street, following a lengthy illness. Death was due to complications. The deceased [Mary BELT], born Aug. 30, 1886, near Macy, was the daughter of Raymond and Amanda (HORTON)BELT. On Feb. 14, 1906, she became the bride of Benjamin MULLICAN, and with him rmoved a few years later to this city, where she has resided for 25 years.She was a member of Grace Methodist church in this city. Survivors includethe husband; two daughters, Miss Kathleen Elizabeth MULLICAN and Mrs. MarianEileen BURNETT, both of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Grace ENYART of Indianapolis and Mrs. Maude SHELLEY of Rochester; and two grandchildren, Karen Diane [BURNETT] and Robert Lynn BURNETT of Indianapolis. The body will lie at the Zimmerman Bros. funeral home, where friends may call until the hour of thefuneral. The rites will be in charge of Rev. F. R. BRIGGS. Burial will be atFive Corners cemetery, south of the city.
CARRUTHERS, WILLIAM [Rochester, Indiana] BIOGRAPHY William Carruthers, farmer, P.O. Rochester, was born in Licking County, Ohio, October 17, 1838. He is the son of James and Mary (Trickey) Carruthers, who were natives of Virginia.The subject of this sketch lost his parents when he was but an infant, and was given into the hands of John Taylor, with whom he remained until 1854, whenhe started out to battle with the hardships of life alone. He enlisted in September, 1861, as a private in Company B, Thirty-fourth Indiana Infantry, and participated in numerous battles, among which may be mentioned Island No. 10, Arkansas Post, in the siege of Vicksburg for forty-eight days; Jackson, Miss.; Champion Hill, where his company went into the battle with fifty-sevenmen and came out with only seventeen. As a soldier, he was brave and fearless. He was promoted to Commissary Sergeant; was discharged in February, 1865. He was married March 10,1867, to Mary C. Belt, who was born in Licking County,Ohio. She is the daughter of Dorsey and Elizabeth (Bryant) Belt, who were natives of Virginia. Shortly after marriage, Mr. Carruthers settled in Miami County, and was engaged in farming until 1869, when he became a resident of Fulton County. Thursday, December 4, 1919, Rochester Sentinel Mrs. Melissa EVERED died at thehome of her nephew, Dorsey BELT, at Elkhart, and her body was brought to thehome of her niece, Mrs. Ben MULLICAN, Saturday afternoon, and funeral was held from that home Sunday afternoon, preached by Rev. Thos. DAVIES. Intermentwas in Plainview cemetery. Mrs. Evered was the widow of John EVERED and yearsago lived a mile west of Macy. She leaves one brother, Raymond BELT. - - - MACY ITEMS.
Wednesday, March 9, 1932 Rochester Sentinel Cyrus Francis BELT, aged 82, diedTuesday afternoon at his home at 1401 Elm street, death being due to complications of diseases due to advanced years. He had been ill for several months. The deceased was born on a farm near Five Corners on Jan. 22, 1850, the son of Dorsey and Nancy (BRYANT) BELT. Mr. Belt is the last of a family of seven brothers and three sisters. He had spent his entire life in this community and for many years followed the occupation of a ditcher. He was a believer in the Christian faith. Surviving are his wife, formerly Harriet CONFER,whom he married on Oct. 10, 1890; six children, Mrs. William MORRIS and Charles BELT, of South Bend; Mrs. Bert ERB, of Wabash, Louise [BELT], of St. Louis, Mo.; W. H. BELT, of Rochester, and Mildred [BELT] at home; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Thursdayafternoon at two oclock at the residence, with Rev. Fred YEAZEL in charge.Burial will be made in the Shelton cemetery south of Rochester.
