Elinor Carroll was the second wife to John McCubbin (first wife Susan Howard) . Identification of Eleanor as a Carroll apparently comes from "The Founders of Anne Arundel and Howard Counties by J. D. Warfield, Baltimore 1905" That she was a Carroll is unproved, also that John Mccubbin immigrant married twice is also an unproved and probably untrue statement. There is no evidence to show that Eleanor was a Carroll. It is more likely she was Eleanor Abraham, a headright of Edward Skidmore who patented Hamilton near John Maccubbin March 25, 1662. He transported her to the province Anno 1659. No marriage record has ever been found.

That was also in the "Baltimore Sun" articles that ran for sometime in 1906, however, most researchers beleive it was derived from Warfield. In 1892 Griffith wrote: A long and patient search has failed to reveal to us the maiden name and parentage of Elinor. [Griffith family Genealogy Baltimore 1892] Many others have followed with research. As it stands today she should be given that the name of Eleanor is LNU.

Elinor Carroll, was the daughter of Anthony Carroll. About 1672, at Fall Meeting of the North Maryland Quakers, she married John McCubbin, the Colonist. She was his second wife. John was a Planter, he came from the lowlands of Scotland in 1658 and took a grant of land, Timber Rock, in 1659. John took several land grants in Maryland, Brampton, Wardrope, on the South River; also McCubbin's Cove and Hamilton. This founder of the Maruland family is GROGed in a grave yard in the middle of a plowed field of Old Brampton, now owned in Apr 1972 by Thomas Gaither. John's lands were divided between his 5 sons, each of whom spelled the name differently. Their sons were:Samuel, Wm, Zacharias, Moses.
