Notes:
Note: There may be more evidence that Drury is not the same person as my Andrew Maynard.....

CLUES FOR RESEARCH
1-Telephone call with Clellie Ballard....8-26-99 said that Viola Maynard Baughman, Brush, Co. (in rest home) had some research done by Mr..Black (former researcher at SL-Family History Library) He said all the Maynards came from Wake County, N.C. Clue to follow up on. Clellie said that they can be listed as being born in S.C. and the next census it states N.C....the boundry lines changed but they hadn't moved.
(Rebuttal: All the Maynards don't come from Wake Co.,NC)

2-Letter dated June 8, 1994 from Sandy Garrison said "Had brothers James C. Maynard who married in Jefferson County 1866 moved to Mo by 1879. Brother Moses B. ca 1806 N.C...still don't know who father was."
(note: Could research the brother..James C. Maynard in Mo and see if tracking his ancestry will help me).

3-Family records of Tim Williams (now deceased,a cousin & grandson of Andrew Maynard), Cookeville, Tenn.....collected by Dorsa Garrison Law (my mother)....many years ago:
"Andrew Maynard and his brother Mosie (Moses?) Maynard was captured by Indians in middle Tennessee, near Hillham, Tenn. (Overton County). He died 1879, the year the Braggil brothers were hung."
(My note: Pictorial History of Putnam County, Tennessee P. 81 stated "The only public execution ever held in Putnam County was the hanging of the Brassell brothers on March 27, 1878." Note: So this information is not far off from what Tim Williams stated..

Quote from Tim Williams......
"There was 26 wagons of relatives that came from Jamestown, Va to Knoxville and fought the Indians (as records)."
Tim Williams, Cookeville, Tenn...This information collected by Dorsa Garrison Law said:
" ANDREW MAYNARD was Tim Williams grandfather.
Note: 2000 A genealogy teacher said to check: Early Militia Records in Augusta Co.,Va....it was a staging area for Indian fighters....teacher's name ? in Lone Mt. Stake, Las Vegas,NV....?
   tel: 360-5202...

4-Dorsa Garrison Law papers:
Said Ammon Maynard, was 1st cousin of Ezekiel. If this is correct, that is a huge clue.
*****AMMON MAYNARD was Harriet Bradford Bullington's 1st husband. ( There is another Ammon Maynard in the area)....She later married Ezekiel. AMMON'S father was WILLLIAM. It would seem that WILLIAM & ANDREW would be brothers if this is the correct Ammon Maynard.

3-12-2000 I picked a name in white pages looking for Emilie Maynard in Sparta, Tenn.. There was no Emilie so I just picked out a name: Bill Maynard and called hoping that he could tell me if there was an Emilie in the area. It turns out to be his wife is Emilie.........what luck She was coming back in 30 min. so I'll call back. I spoke with her and she does not yet have the information I'm looking for....still trying to figure the Maynards out. She is a Maynard and so is her husband. She tells me that there are still Maynards in Van Buren Co.,Tenn).

Emilie Maynard, Rt.9 Box 87, Sparta, Tennessee---zip? 583...Jan 23, 1992 letter in file.
"The first mention I can find of Andrew in White County was in 1826 where he is listed in the "Free Men over 21 Census". He is listed with Burrel Maynard in Capt. Parkers' Company (this is now in Van Buren County) Burrel was a son of Drury that came from Wilkes County, North Carolina. Drury had two sons and one daughter. Drury died CA 1824-5 and Burrel got his land. Andrew apparently left this area before 1830 or anyway there is no mention of him in the census in any middle Tennessee.
(My Note: He was in the 1850 Census of DeKalb County with name spelled Mainard...she may have missed that spelling..) (1860 Cumberland Co,Tenn..This Drury Mainard may be Andrew Maynard, may not be....).
Possibly he was living with another family. I have often wondered if Andrew was a son of DRURY and went to DeKalb County to live among his cousins.
(Gibson Jr's Descendants). No mention of Andrew again until the 1840 DeKalb County Tenn. Census in the Falling Water District. There are several Maynard men in this district that I have never been able to find out who they belong to...Samuel and Mikager, both fairly young. They don't appear in 1850 anywhere in Tenn. On the DeKalb Co Tax 1857-1858 Mikager appears and also a Webster Maynard, neither own land...They only paid their poll tax. Mikager lived next to Moses Maynard."
"I also have an Andrew J. Maynard listed as serving in the Civil War as a Corporal in I Company, 5TH Calvary (Yankee Army). Also, there is an Andrew in the same company that served as a Private...This may be the same person who was promoted or maybe not. Other Maynards in the same company were Hickman, James C., Mekajah and Waymon W. These last two were sons of Andrew. I would very much like to know what ever happened to Andrew's son, Anderson, who was born ca 1831. It seems as if most of the family disappeared after the war. I don't know if Andrew and Elizabeth died before 1870 or if they left Tennessee.
Thousands of people left Tenn after the war. My great, great grandfather, Larkin Maynard, died during the war and his wife died about a year later. Their seven were scattered all over the countryside and we are still trying to put them together. "

Hi Sandy,
I thought there was a William Williams and Judith (not sure about Rachel), parents of Mary Williams that married Henry Burton. Information on that Williams line is sketchy at best. Straightnen me out on this ok...We probably will find more on it on Internet and the trick is to see if there is any documentation to prove it.
This will is pretty fascinating.....he seems to have been well enough off to have had so many slaves (about 14 I believe)......

He went to Kentucky and had another family...He walked away from the 1st family. 5 children from first marriage.
and took some of the children with him. Clellie comes through Mary Bird Maynard (who joined the Mormon church). After he left it is said that his wife had a baby born out of wedlock (note: possible reason he left). She was out walking one day and the baby was dropped and died as a result of the fall. Baby was Robert Maynard....he died when 8 months old.

I'm compiling this same family for a friend, but the most help that I have found has been in the Upper Cumberland Gen. publications ("UCGA"), especially Vol XIV, #1 (Spring 1989); page 38: "The John Dyer Family". Copies of it should be available from Ft Wayne through The PERSI Index. The Burton's, Herrin's and Maynard's intermarried quite a bit with the Dyer family- in Jackson and Dekalb Cos TN.

AFN: 3X5Z-XC
Clellie Ballard said that her mother, Lena Dyer Maggart, said that "Ezekiel Maynard was the best man earth, just an angel. He'd help people, do things for people, take them in and feed them."

Desperately looking for information on a Parsetta Elizabeth Maynard or Mainard. My info is that she was born in May of 1845 and died in March of 1910. I think her father was Andrew Mainard and his father was Gibson Mainard. I think Andrew and Gibson were from either South or North Carolina. Parsetta married my great-grandfather who was Joseph Williams SR. Any info on the Maynard, Mainard or the Williams line would be "greatly" appreciated. Thanks so much.
