Old letter from T.L.Holden to P.B. Holden at Kalida, Ohio 14 Jan 1857....original in my files.
Asks for him to come visit him, pay taxes for Mathew Mason's land; Speaks regarding preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ; mentions a brother in church, Brother Runkle (United Brethren Congregation or Christian Union.

More history from Fred Holden, Clarksburg, W.VA "Benjamin and Alexander came from England in the mid to late 1700'S. Originally they settled in New Jersey but neither tarried long. Benjamin moved to Ohio."

( My note and correction to history: Pearson B. Holden's father lived in Harrison Co.,Va. . Benjamin's will was located in Harrison County,Va records (Will Bk 4) and he is buried in Center Branch Church Cemetery, Harrison County (near Clarksburg). So, it was Alexander that moved from Harrison County after 1800 (He is in 1800 Harrison Census) to Ohio about 1804 or so.) Alexander is serving in the Ohio House by 1808.

Benjamin was one of first settlers in Harrison County, Virginia and many of his decendants resided there..my direct line moved into Ohio...Pearson B. Holden (son of Benjamin Holden and 2nd wife, Anna Lambert)..

More of Fred Holden history:
"Some of his children, as adults, came southward to settle in Harrison County,Va.." (My note: Many of his decendants are found in Harrison County records).
"Alexander did not accompany his brother to Ohio but moved to Barbour Co.,W.Va. (Note: Benjamin did not go with his brother to Ohio). He was married to Sally Chamberlain , of England, and settled on an 800 acre farm given to them by Sally's parents. According to one source, Alexander died in Ohio on September 25, 1832, at the age of 68." (My note: In Licking County, Ohio Probate records...lists his will 29 Oct 1832, with name of wife as Sally and a Mahlon and Wilson Holden and a Jacob Swisher. If accurate, he was born in 1764...possibly in England
History continued: . " Knowledge of Alexander's descendants is lacking except for two sons:

John Chamberlain Holden, born June 15, 1791.
Lewis Holden (birthdate unknown) suppose to have died 2 Apr 1818. Birthdate not known.
John C. Holden was married Dec. 20, 1813 to Grace Holden. She was the daughter of Benjamin Holden and Jemina Holden (formerly Jemima Derumple of New Jersey."
"Apparently John and Grace were cousins though this is nowhere stated. Grace was born 10 Nov 1790. She died 16 May 1819. There appears to be no record of any children of this marriage except one daughter, Sally Holden, bn 4 July 1815, died 25 Apr 1832" (There is more information in my files.)

Some of this information needs varification...note: It is interesting to note that Benjamin's wife's name here is Jemima Derumple of New Jersey...Believe he had more than one wife. 1- Jemima,2- Anna Lambert and 3- Margaret (who is mentioned in his will).
