"All family members were married either in Cimarron, Gray Co., Kansas, or Dodge City, Ford County, Kansas.  But I wrote in only the ones I am sure of.  The 6 oldest were born in W. Va.  If I remember right, it was Skin Creek, W.Va.  But, I'm not sure.  Our family moved to Cimarron, Kans. on a farm and ranch 6 miles out from Cimarron on Oct. 16, 1903.  The last 3 of us were born in Cimarron, Kansas."

"Maybe you'd enjoy learning about my father's name.  His father was serving in the army when he was born and Grandmother had not named him yet.  Believe that was the Civil War.  The northern soldiers were always canvassing the home, so since he had no name, the soldiers named him after the southern president...Jefferson Davis.  Of course, he was always J.D. Butcher, and was known as Jeff.  The soldiers were always searching for Grandpa.  They used their bayonets and punched holes in one of the mattresses to see if he was hiding there.  Dear Grandmother, what she had to deal with."
