       Note:

John probably had two wives, Ann and Nancy. Not sure which children are by which wife. Children
were born over a 42-year period (the last when John was 62).

Two sons, William and Henry, went to Mississippi.

1790 census of NC, Beaufort Co., Newbern Dist. shows two John Toler households. One may be
John's father, or John may have been living with his father John.

Following is a note from John Tolar of CA about his visit to the Tolar homeplace in NC (1999):
"... We went to Fayetteville where we visited with Bob, Harold and Buddy Tolar. We met Bob at
the Bentonville Battleground (this was about half way between Fayetteville and his home at Kinston).
We had dinner with Harold, his wife and daughter and visited with them in their home. Buddy
(Albert) and his wife Mary live on his father's old farm which is near the old John Tolar place. Buddy
took us on a tour that included old cemeteries, Tolarsville (Capt. Robert Tolar became Postmaster
at this small cross road community) and the old John Tolar home site (burned in 1905) and Tolar
Landing on the Cape Fear River about one quarter mile from the home site.
"John's property, 2600 acres, in Cumberland and Blanden Counties, was on both sides of the River
and the landing is where he crossed the river with his mules and supplies. Boats bringing goods up
and down the river also stopped here to load and unload goods. The whole property is now owned
by the Dupont Corporation. They built a Plant of some sort on it and turned the remainder into a
            Game Preserve.
"Tolar Landing is now known as Lock Number Two. The Corps of Engineers built a Shallow Dam
and Lock on the site. We were given the "Ten Dollar Tour" of the place and I was even asked to
sign the Log Book since I was John descended from "the" John.
"We really enjoyed our time in NC. One could spend weeks going through all the old Cemeteries
and Court Houses. I heard there is a "Thames Cemetery" near the old place but we didn't get to visit
            it (this time)."
