INVENTOR OF TELEVISION CREDITED GOD FOR CREATIONS See http://www.sltrib.com/2002/sep/09022002/utah/utah.htm Link On 7 September 1927, Philo Farnsworth, made history when he transmitted a single line of light in a makeshift lab in San Francisco, California. "There you have it," said the 21-year-old Farnsworth, "electronic television." Years later in a television interview conducted one year before his death, Farnsworth said: "I am a deeply religious man; I know that God exists. I know that I have never invented anything. Letter head...Jennings & Smith, Grand Rapids...Sept. 24, 1894...Grand Rapids, Michigan. My dear Brother, Your welcome letter was received. But, I thought you were coming back when you went away. I feel real disappointed. Will says you were gaining ground all the time and he says your customers are inquiring after you for goods. He said he offered you rent this winter if you would come. Well I tell you, do as you like and then you will be satisfied but I don't think you want to farm. Will says he wasn't tired of you, said he made better time when you were with him than now. Frank has had typhoid fever and is just getting up around the house. Charley Taylor and wife were here all day Saturday. He goes back to Kankakee this morning. Aunt Lucy and Jackson were here last Monday and Tuesday. Hattie and Rittie had a very pleasant time staying with Grandma. I haven't seen her yet. Aunt Lucy says she will keep her just as long as she can. Well, the summer resorts are closed up but the theaters are running full blast at all three houses. Will says Jason may have to move that barn back if he moves it off. He says he has no business to move off that barn. Of course, the house don't stand on Ma's place but as long as will has a mortgage on the place he has no right to remove anything. What makes you try to farm if you can't have what is right. It is now half past seven and Hattie and I are going down town. She has to have a pair of shoes before she goes to school. I hope to hear from you soon. We all join in sending love to you all. SKETCH ON LIFE My Note:Eleanor Law Johnson's thoughts about Grandma Law: She was a wonderful Grandmother to me and always loved me and showed the greatest love and respect for children. I remember her sweet dieposition and her kindness to me when I dropped a piece of her fabulous custard pie. She handed me the plate with the pie on it and I then tryed to sit on a stool that was too high for me and off slid the pie onto the floor. I began to cry. She didn't get upset with me but she comforted me and gave me another piece of pie that was even a bigger piece. I remember that as if it were yesterday. She was a woman of God, read the Bible every day, went to her church (Christian Scientist faith), observed the Sabbath and lead a life in Christ in following his example. She lived in a second story apartment at Meta Street in Ventura....My Dad said she lived at Meta and Thomsen..I remember that later on she was living in another home, on a ground level, near shopping and one of main streets in Ventura. She has had a great impact on my life in her righteous example and kindness to me. I esteem her greatly as a precious part of my past. I remember being by dad's side as he wept over her right after the accident. No one thought she would last another day but she was truly amazing. I remember visiting her in the hospital ward and wondering how long she would have to stay there. She was so sweet and humble and kind. She smiled through all that pain so many times. Daddy just adored her and I hope he is enjoying being with his family now, and especially his father and mother. That must have been quite a reunion. This really made me cry to think of the pain she had to endure with the loss of our grandfather and then this. I always remember that she loved and hugged us and made us feel very special.
