Dear Eleanor,

Thank you for your inquiry. According to our Cemetery Inscription books, there are seven Farnsworths listed in Defiance County, all at the Old Forest Home Cemetery in Hicksville, Ohio (Defiance County), located off of State Route 18.

Edna D. Aug. 14, 1888: aged 78 yr. 4 mo., 3 da.
Oliver D. Dec. 24, 1882: aged 86 yr. 6 mos. 6 da.

Additionally, we have listed:
Francis O. 1832-1920 - Came to Defiance 1840.
Margaret M. 1840-1912

All of the above are in Row 6: section 3.

Also, we have
Albert 1830-1918
Eliza A. 1834-1894 - Wife
Newell A. 1855-1933

All of the above are in Row 1: section 5.

I checked for obituaries in the County Express, the Democrat and the Crescent (where available) and found nothing for either Edna or Oliver.
I also checked the Catholic Diocese records for the Catholic church in Hicksville - no Farnsworths listed.
For a list of the churches in Defiance County, the Defiance County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society has a list at their website:

"A large number of friends, relatives and neighbors met at the church today (Tuesday) to pay the last tribute of respect to Oliver Farnsworth who departed this life Sunday evening, Dec. 24th, aged 86 years. To the old settlers of this part of the county Mr. Farnsworth was well known as a farmer, mechanic and an industrious man. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Persin, of Bryan, using a portion of scripture found in the 90th Psalm for a subject. The deceased was taken to the Hicksville Cemetery for interment. Wm. Carter

Note: It may be a possibility that Mary Jackson is the first wife of Oliver but it is also possible that it is a different Oliver. Other sources state that his first wife was Nancy Rice. Also find that a son, Milo Farnsworth's death record stated that he was born in Homer,N.Y. 1822. This adds to the idea that Oliver wasn't in Boston till a latter period in the 1820's.

p382 Farnsworth Family
"Oliver and Edna (King) Farnsworth, natives of Vermont, moved to New York City about 1833. They lived there for three years. Then they moved to Stark County, Ohio. Here he worked at his trade of carpenter and joiner for four years. In the fall of 1840, he brought the family to Definace County, Ohio, and located in Milford Township. He lived on what is not known as the Adam Rhiele farm, where he started to clear land and make a home for his family. He continued to live here until he was called to his final rest on December 24, 1882, at the age of eight-six years and six months. His wife survived him about six years. She died August 14, 1888, at the age of seventy-eight years. Thus passed away two of Defiance County's honored pioneers and highly respected citizens. They are buried in Forest Home Cemetery at Hicksville, Ohio. They were the parents of eleven children, two of whom died in infancy. Nine children reached adulthood: Jane A., wife of Royal L. Taylor; Albert; Frank; Ellen, wife of Clement Hulbert; Eliza, wife of Jason B. Martin; Mary, wife of Sumner Johnson; Nathan E.; Lucy, wife of William Jackson; and Edna, wife of Sam Myheoffer." Hi Pam,
Are you related to Oliver Farnsworth bn 28 June 1796 in Woodstock,Vt.d.24 Dec 1882 Milford Twp.,Defiance County,Ohio? He is my 2nd great, grandfather. He married twice that I know of 1)believed to be Nancy Rice...they have one son, Milo Farnsworth b. Dear Shelly,
I've kept your message all this time.....
My 2nd g.grandfather was Oliver Farnsworth......By his first wife, Nancy Rice, he had a son: Milo R. Farnsworth b 1822 Homer, NY and died 26 May 1909 in CRESCO,IOWA.
Milo and his wife had a large family....many daughters and sons born between 1850-1863: sons Byron, Clinton, Frank and Charles Farnsworth. My thinking is that it may be that your picture is of one of the children from those sons that may have lived in the same area as their parents. That narrows it down a bit.....Hope you can put that photo in the hands of that family. Did you contact anyone in Cresco? Does Upper Iowa University still exist and do they have a record that may help you? Good luck.....

I've "rescued" an old photograph of a young Mr. FARNSWORTH of Cresco, Iowa which was taken at the W.H. Monroe Studio in Fayette, Iowa. It notes on the back of the photograph that he was a student at Upper Iowa University. I believe the photograph was likely taken in the 1890's and that Mr.FARNSWORTH was in his late teens at the time.I'm hoping to find someone from this family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me.Thanks,Shelley

The photograph wasn't claimed so it was donated to the Howard-Winneshiek Genealogical Society.
Thanks,
