"Mark" [Note: William Allison's mark looks like a covered dish with handles.] The Allisons were strict Presbyterians from Londonderry, Ulster, Ireland. They were instrumental in forming the Donegal Presbyterian Church, about 1723, in Lancaster/Chester County, PA. Marriage: Page 281, states William Wray married Mary Galbreath (no date) they were related to Grisel Wray, wife of William Allison PAGE Presently, it is not known the name of either husband of Grizzell, but some researchers are investigating the possibility the 1st husband was William Allison of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The reason for this search is the record found in this book on page 177. It says that "James Maxfield assigns Martha Hamilton (a servant from Ireland on the ship Rundell)to William Allison of Lancaster County yoeman for four years from Sept. 21, 1746. Part of the deal was you had to develop it, so the English Gov. sent out officials to check. These lists everything down to new wells. Minor tenants are alas not named. UnderDerry in the Carew Manuscripts it states, "Derry: Next we come to Derry, where we saw the church well slated and repaired . . . A thatched house wherein Mr. Wray dwelleth . . . Two fair lime-kills. A fair whaft of 300 foot long . . ." In 1619, they sent out Nicholas Pynnar to do a survey. Under English Undertakers (Vol. II p. 537) he lists many in Armagh as well. Butler was our head commander. We were marched by Gen. Butler from Orange County down to Granville old Court House, in Granville County, where we remained some time. Some of us here obtained leave to return home for the purpose of intertaining the situation of our relatives, many of whom had suffered from the depredations of the British under the command of Lord Cornwallis....who with his army had lain in the neighborhood of this declarants fathers for two days and nights. When he arrived at his fathers he found his house striped of furniture. They had taken a wagon and team from his father and as much corn as they could carry. This property was never regained. He remained at his fathers one day and then went immediately and joined the troops under the command after Gen. Green"...The militia were here discharged after remaining a few days and this declarant returned again to his fathers. This was shortly prior to the surrender of Lord Cornwallis." In the application for pension he claimed 14 months service to the county. Tues. June 8, 1999 Eleanor Law Johnson's journal entry: I've been researching in Orange County, North Carolina records this afternoon and reading in my Handy book about how the Scotch-Irish came into Pennsylvanina and down into Virginia and to North Carolina....It was facinating: "When large groups of Scotch-Irish departed from Pennsylvania down the Shenandoah valley to settle in Virginia, many continued on into North Carolina. For religious reasons they had been banished from Scotland, where their stong Protestant views irked the religious leaders. Thousands of them were transplanted into Ireland, where they remained long enough to get an opportunity to come to the new world. Many of them established homes in the western section of the state, around the present region of Iredell County." I went to the Joseph Smith Building (Salt Lake City,UT) ....found three books, two on Allison's and one on Clark's. The story above fits all of what I read just perfectly. I find John Allison who marries Martha Hamilton (probably in Penn....Lancaster County....I'll do some research on that) Anyway, Martha is an indentured servant to William Allison for 4 years....1746 to 1750 and she marries John Allison, possible son of William. From the book "Allison Connections" by Della Pat Franklin, 208 West Cemetery Rd, Cookeville, Tenn 38501 I find the following on pg. 1...."John Allison, Sr. born between 1720 and 1729, came to America (possibly from Ireland) when a small boy and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It was here he married Martha Hamilton. Martha was born in Antrim, Ireland ca 1833 and came to America 4 Oct 1746. The following from Emigrants to Penn. 1641-1819 edited by Michael Topper, page 117 "October 4, 1746, James Maxfield assigns Martha Hamilton a servant from Ireland in the ship Rundell to William Allison of Lancaster Co. yeoman for four years from September 21, 1746 until September 1750. This means that Martha was a servant to William Allison until September 1750. ....anyway it goes on and is really the story of the Scotch-Irish that came into N.C.... 7-24-00 usgenweb.com Orange County NC - DEEDS - John ALLISON to James GREGORIE, 15 Jun 1784 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Ms. Louise Overton ------------------------------------------------------------------- Orange County, N.C.
