Nancy Ellen Barr divorced Ezekial Maynard in 1884 in Smithville, Tn and by court order was given full control of their offspring and the right to retain her maiden name.  Her father, Jacob C. Barr adopted and reared her son, Samuel Neeley and because of this he was always known as Samuel Neeley Barr (S.N Barr,Sr) and at no time in his entire life did he ever wear the Maynard name.  The source of information here is himself, his wife, his family and his cousins."

My mother, Mary Etta Barr, b. 29 Oct 1898 Putnam County, Tn was also a granddaughter of Jacob C. Barr, the man who reared Nancy Ellen Barr's offspring, Samuel Neeley Barr (nee Maynard).  She told me many, many 
times about Ezekiel Maynard and Nancy Ellen Barr. I do not know why they  divorced, but Ezekiels own son, Samuel Neeley and wife, Parzetta Elizabeth Myatt,  gave me the information about the divorce in Smithville, Tn in 1884. So, the information I gave to you came directly from those people themselves. Samuel Neeley Barr (nee Maynard) is a second cousin of mine and I knew  him very well, and still visit with his family. I bought my first 
refrigerator from him at his Hardware Store in Baxter, Tn in 1950. (I celebrated my  50th wedding anniversary last saturday, March 4th). We scrapped the  refrigerator about 20 yrs ago, otherwise it was still running. You wont find this on familysearch, though.

My records are in Family Search. Ezekiel and Nancy Ellen Barr are listed. I did not have all three wives for Ezekiel when my husband sent my files to the Mormom Church.

       Thank you for your message on GenForum.  It's another piece of the puzzle on the Maynard family.     Ezekiel did indeed marry three times.  I was glad  to receive the full data on Nannie Barr (Nancy)and her
lineage. Does anyone know the story of why Ezekiel and  Nancy divorced?
        On the children from the first marriage....Ruth  Angeline Maynard (md Robert Mansfield Garrison) was my
grandmother and I remember her well...a sweet,  wonderful, hard-working woman. She died when I was a
10 yr. old child but I still remember the day in  Redding, California as if it were yesterday. It was a  sad day for the family.

Nancy was born 3 Sep 1864, in Putnam County, Tennessee.  Nancy was the daughter of Jacob Cronkett Ellison Rawleigh Barr and Hixy Adeline Martin.  She married 2)Bethel Alfred Martin in Tennessee, before 1897.  Nancy died 13 Feb 1920 in Baxter, Putnam County, Tennessee, at 55 years of age.  Her burial was after 13 Feb 1920 in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Baxter, Putnam County, Tennessee.  Ezekiel married Harriet Bradford Bullington in Tennessee.
