As I recall, I believe his name was in the History of Mercer County and also his wifes name.....so there must be a connection. Have you tried usgenweb.com and gone into Venango County,PA....that might be a good place to start. Also look at genteach.org ...our website of 50 places to search. Please do keep in touch.... Thanks again and again for your help. You mentioned Ann Hunter and Richard Law. Do you know when they emmigrated? I have run across them in the Presbyterian Church records for Tyrone. I am trying to connect them to my Law family that immigrated in 1812, landing in Portland, Maine. My Law family migrated to PA. I do not know where they were in PA between 1812 and 1822. In 1823, Ann Law, my ggggrandmother (no husband at this time) buys land in Armstrong Co PA with her son, James Law,(my gggrandfather). James Law says in his naturalization papers that he was born about 1803 in County Tyrone, Ireland. From his tombstone and census records, I have him being born in 1802. I am trying to find if my Ann LAW is the Ann Hunter of County Tyrone. The children do not match, but children can die or not immigrate. I found a Richard Law ,born about 1768 in Co. Fermanagah, married Ann Hunter about 1791 in Tyrone. Children: Richard, Andrew, James, John, William. The James Law, I found in the church records was born about 1792, not 1802 as my James Law. Children can die young and later children can take their name. My Ann Law died in 1828 in Armstrong Co. PA about 30 miles up the Allegheny River from Pittsbugh. The children Ann Law lists in her will of 1828: James Law married to Margaret Hill David Law Robert Law William Law John Law Rebecca Law married to David Ralston Nancy Law married to John Ray Jean/Jane Law married to Willliam Hill Martha Law married to Joseph Graham Betsy Law James Law stayed in Armstrong Co PA and ( I think )David Law who died young in his 30's. David was married but I do not know his wife's name. David was a Presbyterian preacher. I do not know where the other sons went but they are not in the 1830 s ensus(or later) for Armstrong Co. PA. My Ann Law was born November 8, 1868 and died August 7, 1828. This information is from her tombstone. I feel I am close but not close enough in trying to establish my Law family in Tyrone. The big problem is that I do not know Ann's husband's name. Do you have any suggestion or hints for me. I am going to Ireland in March and would like as much information as I can get. Many of the Presbyterian records have not been filmed by the Mormons--only a few. The Presbyterians are a little touchy about this. I have read that one still has to get permisson from the local parish minister to even view the microfilmed records at the Presbyterian Historical Society in Belfast. Of course you could always go to each individual church, make an appointment to view the records. Here are some of the LAW information I have found in County Down, County Antrim, and County Tyrone. Law and sons of Jason Andrew Law. He stated following....however, I believe this family is Irish and the German lines come in the Knisley & Eib family: "Richard Andrew Law's father died young (In his thirties.about 36) He was Penn. Dutch which is German.?? R.A.Law's mother remarried (note: Elizabeth Baker married Richard Clarkson) so that R.A.LAW did not know much about the Law history. Mother from Dublin, Ireland. Richard Andrew had three half brothers and sisters, two girls, one boy." (These half brothers and sisters would probably have been Baker children as there were no children born to Richard Clarkson and Elizabeth that I know of). Conclusion on the above ideas: So far, it is possible that there is a step brother. In 1840 Census, Logan Co.,Ohio Richard Clarkson has following information: 1 male 5 under 10 would be Richard Andrew Law. 1 male 10 under 15 could be one of Elizabeth's sons from other marriage to Baker.. 1 male 30-40 fits Richard Clarkson's age. 1 Female 40-50 fits Elizabeth Clarkson's age. HISTORY The story I heard from Uncle Richard Law (my fathers brother) was that Richard Andrew Law's father died young and that his mother remarried. The notes indicate that Elizabeth Clarkson and Richard Clarkson were in the deed records of Mercer County, Penn. prior to their buying property in Logan County, Ohio in 1837. Also there was an old piece of paper that was given to me that said 11 children by Baker and 1 child by Law. There were no children born to Elizabeth and Richard Clarkson. And they divorced in Logan County, Ohio 1852. So, it is assumed that she was married to a Baker before Law. There is a William Baker next to her in the Logan Co.,Ohio 1850 Census. She may have been a Baker and had the 11 children before being widowed or divorced, remarried a Law and had one child, then he died (?) and she remarried to Clarkson (who was much younger than her). An early piece of evidence or clue was a piece of paper (old) that there were "11 children by Baker, one child by Law" This was on an old piece of paper that my father had given to me. There is a William & Malvina Baker in Logan County, Ohio in the same census of 1850 Logan Co,Ohio Bokes Creek Twp. next to Elizabeth Clarkson age 60 Bn Va and Richard A. Law 18 (my great,grandfather).....Possibly one of Elizabeth Clarkson's children from first marriage. If he were throughly researched, it is very possible that much more information could be found on Elizabeth Clarkson, if she is indeed the mother of Richard. We do not know her maiden name.... (In divorce records from Logan County, Ohio Richard Clarkson stated that he was married about 1835 in Mercer County,Penn to Elizabeth or Betsy Baker...it is possible that she took her Baker name back before she married Clarkson). OBITUARY Richard A. Law was born in Mercer County, Penn.,Apr.2, 1832. He moved with his parents to Logan County,(Ohio) in 1836, thence to Putnam County (Ohio) near Kalida in 1849.(Note: he is in Logan Co. 1850 Census) In 1852 he was married to Sarah Jane Holden, who has been the companion of his joys and sorrows for the past fifty-four years. Two children and ten grandchildren along with his aged companion live to mourn the loss his loss. He united with the United Brethren Church when he was 21 years old and afterwards with the Church of Christ in Bryan(Ohio) in 1888 where he moved in 1876. Since 1902 he resided in Edgerton until the date of his death which occured last Friday evening at 6:30 o'clock. He was a faithful Christian and a noble man and we deeply mourn his removal from amoung our midst, fully realizing that in his death we have indeed sustained a great loss. J.H.O Smith, of Valaparaiso, Indiana, officiated. Mr. Smith spoke words of comfort in loving kindness and sympathy to the wife, children, and grandchildren, whom mourn the absence of a loving husband and father. This is a true copy by P.
