During the depression, he couldn't find work and he had eight children to feed. Evidently he became very depressed and went in the barn and drank lye and died. Jerry, his son, was only 5 years old.
Opal remarried later to Strouse and that marriage ended in divorce.

Helen Swindler Rennell's telephone interview....8-7-99 She talked about her Dad's death .."He always worried about feeding the family and taking care of us. He was a good father...held us on his lap and read the funny papers to us. Have a lot of good memories of him. He could grow anything on our half acre. He was a funny man and didn't get along well with Opal's brothers and was a bit moody when they were around. They would like to horse play....go and throw cabbages at each other in his garden and that made him angry. Sometimes the things that the Law boys did, wasn't funny...they thought it was funny at the time but it didn't turn out to be funny (like destroying Leo's garden). There was a little bit of a mean streek in some of the things they did."
Helen is sure that he died in 1931....

Opal also married Herman Strouse who had been married previously, wife died and left him with 7 children. Opal took those children and raised them with all of hers. She divorced Strouse due to his drinking but raised all the children and put them through Edgerton, Ohio High School. They all thought the world of her. Opal never remarried after that.

According to Helen Swindler Renell 8-7-99 She said that her mother, Opal, said that William Francis Gordon was not the father of Leona. Opal never told who the father was. She was embarrassed about her mistake and did not disclose who the father was. Gordon evidently stated that he was the father of Leona. No one really knows for sure.
NEED to send for Birth Certificate...
Herman Strouse built the house that burned at Christmas time 1937....children accidently set the fire...one of his kids was playing with matches. They got out with their lives and that was about all that was saved.

Called Marie on 6-5-93 to tell her my father, Theododre T. Law, was in the hospital. I ask her a couple of question on where some of the brothers and sisters were born. She gave me a couple of telephone numbers.
Marie Swindler was married and divorced from Tom Reeves....Two stillborn children born to them...information at Law Family Reunion...May 1999 in Tenn.
Jerry Swindler called and left a message on the message phone that Marie had passed away on 13 June 1996..He and his wife had been taking care of her. She was living in a nursing home at the time and had alsheimers disease, kidney problems, etc.
Letter: Nov. 3, 1996 letter from my sister, Elaine Law Mannino, with information on the deaths of Jerry's sisters, Marie June 12, 1996 78 years old..died from high blood pressure, blocked kidneys,etc,

3-26-99 E-mail from Nancy Dill stated that "Marie was first married to a man named Tom Reeves and I believe they had 2 stillbirths during that marriage. Divorced. Married Franklin Lum, (deceased). They had 1 daughter, Linda, who died about the age of one year. Marie died 16 June 1996."
