DEATH:
In letters written by Glatha Jane Allison, wife of Andrew Jackson Garrison,
she talks of the children going to their fathers grave and crying for him. I believe he was buried near their home in Wesley, Madison County, Arkansas.
However, a relative also stated that they were buried in Little Rock, Arkansas and that there were no grave stones to mark the grave. It is possible that their bodied were moved to Little Rock, but I do not know why that would have occured unless it was because he had been a Captain in the Civil War in Tennessee.

CIVIL WAR RECORDS & PENSION:
National Archives,Washington,D.C.: There are about 200 pages of records on Andrew Jackson Garrison pertaining to his Civil War service, pension applications from him, his widow, and then his mother-in-law who raised the children after the parents death. Eleanor Johnson (c/o 530 S.4th St,Las Vegas,Nv 89101) have copies of many of these records.

This clue, along with an obituary of one of these sisters and a death certificate was the information that tied Andrew Jackson Garrison to his parents, Obadiah Garrison and his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Calling West. On the sisters death certificate it named her parents (which were also his). These sisters were also on the 1850 Census for Dekalb County with their parents..

His pension records...A.J. GARRISON CIVIL WAR PENSION RECORDS WC 364 921 221PGS

Narration on Garrison Family by Eleanor L. Johnson 12/1999
Regarding the history of Grandpa & Grandma Garrison. Ruth Angeline Maynard's father was Ezekiel Maynard and his father was, Andrew Maynard of South Carolina. On the Maynard lines, there is little past that point as it is a difficult research problem.
On the Garrison line: Robert Mansfield Garrison's parents were Andrew Jackson Garrison and Glatha Jane Allison. He was a Captain in the Civil War with the Union Army. There are over 200 pages of records on him in the National Archives. He was wounded during the war and applied for a pension. He died in 1885 in Arkansas and then his wife, Glatha Jane, applied for a pension. She died in 1886 and all six children were left orphans and taken back to Tennessee and raised by their grandmother, Elizabeth Peggy Clark Allison. The Garrison line has been another difficult research problem but have had some success working on it. It now goes back to France in the 1500's.
Found that Obadiah Garrison and Elizabeth Calling West were in the census records. From one document in
A.J.Garrison's penions and military file, it opened up the case. A William Brattan stated that 2 of his brothers married 2 of Andrew's sisters. So, to make a long story short, when tracing one of the sisters death records it stated that Obadiah and Elizabeth were her parents...thus Andrew's parents also. A deed that I found in Court House in DeKalb County..Obadiah stated that "this property was given to me by my father, Samuel Garrison." That one statement tied us into a book on Isaac Garrison Family and it runs back to France.
This is just some of the information...Hopefully the old letters and pictures , and research can all be gathered into a little publication and shared with the family. Some is on internet through familysearch.org

ANDREW JACKSON GARRISON (1830-1885)
By Sandra E. Garrison (great-granddaughter)
Andrew was one of several children belonging to Obadiah M. GARRISON (25 JUL 1794, NC - 20 AUG 1862, TN) and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Calling WEST (12 JUN 1792, MD - 5 JUN 1866, TN). He was born in Smith County, TN, 30 AUG 1830.
Other than a case of worms treated by John A. Fuson, MD (his father's family physician) Andrew enjoyed a healthy childhood.
He married his first bride, Narcissa PRIDY, at the old Salem Baptist Church in Dekalb County, TN, 8 NOV 1848. They had at least four children all born in Dekalb County:
	1. Sarah Elizabeth, b. ca 1849 m. 26 DEC 1867, Jasper Kunnells or Reynolds.
	2. Matilda Jane, b. ca 1851 d. by 1855
	3. Martha Samantha 'Mattie', b. ca 1854, m. 5 SEP 1872, James W. Mason.
	4. Andrew Jackson Jr., b. 15 MAR 1863 d. 24 JUL 1934, m. 9 SEP 1888, Alice E. Dean. (They had 14 children.)
Andrew received a pistol shot in the side during a quarrel with three rebels who were home on furlough in Liberty, TN. They jumped him because he was a union man. His friend, Monroe Adkins, accidentally shot him while attempting to shoot the rebel Andrew was fighting. Later during the war Monroe is said to have been killed by Andrew.
30 July 1862, at the age of 31, Andrew joined the Union Army. He volunteered with the First Regiment of Middle Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry. In the Battle of Stones he received a slight pistol wound to the left shoulder. January 1863, he was promoted to Sargent with Company A.
In January 1863, under the command of General Stanley, the company was on a scouting expedition in pursuit of General Forrest and at the same time attempting to reinforce the troops at Fort Donelson. While crossing Big Harpers River, about 75 miles west of Nashville, Andrew's horse fell and caught him under it. It was an extremely cold day and he remained in that condition until Corp'l William R. Bratten, Duty Sargent Levi Woodside (who ate and bunked with Andrew), Captain Joseph H. Blackburn, and other soldiers pulled the horse off of him and carried him to the bank. He was badly injured (right hip, knee, and back) and wet. Because they were in enemy country Andrew was put back on his horse and th

Ellie,
I am sorry, the Jasper I was talking about is Sara Elizabeth Garrison husband. Sara is the daughter of Andrew Jackson Garrison and Narcissus Pridy. This is the Sara E. on the 1850 census.
That was my mistake.
I noticed that you said that Narcissa had married a 2nd time. From what I uderstand in the message you sent, she has on her tombstone Narcissia K. Garrison wife of Andrew Jackson Garrison. Could you clear this up for me.
I did not have any info on Narcissus other than their marriage date. Thank you for the info that you sent.

The website at Rootsweb, was not available when I went to the site today. I will try alittle later. I appreciate
all the help that you have given me.

I will still send you the info on Sara Elizabeth and her family if you want it. Like I said before, I know she is not
in your line but it is still AJ's line.

Again I am sorry about the mix up.
Talk to you later,
LOLLY

Ellie,
I have the following papers on Jasper and Sara Elizabeth,

Marriage Records
Jasper's Civil War Pension Application
Sara Elizabeth's Widow's Pension Application
Jasper's Death papers from the Funeral Home
Sara Elizabeth's Death Certificate

Do you want any of these? I can get my daughter to copy
them for you.

I also have the dates and marriage records of some of
their children. I also have their children. I can send you more
names and dates tomorrow on them if you like, or do
you want me to send them with the other records I told you
about. Just let me know and I will do whatever you need.

Do you know that Samuel Garrison was Obadiah's Father?
And his wife was Miss Loftis? I didn't know if you knew this
or not because I don't remember you saying anything about it.

I will close for now, and send you more info tomorrow if
you want me to.

Thanks for the help on the Garrisons. I went on the website
as you asked. If you have anything else I would appreciate it.
Jasper fought for the South and Andrew Jackson fought for the
North from what I understood you to say.

Talk to you tomorrow,
LOLLY

Ellie,
I am sorry that I haven't responded to your question about the Census Records. Well I have not found any
Census records as far as Robertson Co. is concerned with Jasper and Sara Elizabeth on them until 1900 Census
and it states that they are living in the house of John Eidson 38, Mattie 20, Otis 2, Jasper REYNOLDS 57,
Sara 32, Lula 17, Tony 10.

Then five names later it states
Henry Christian 27, Cornelia 25, Callie ( cannot read age) Gracie 1.

This is the micro film version of the Census so it is hard to read. I hope to go to the Library sometime this week and search the Tennessee Census for as many years as I can.

Like I told you before I have been working on so many families that it is hard to keep them separated. I will try and do what I can on this end and send you what I can. Do you want me to send you group sheets on the children, their children, and their children on the e-mail or do you want me to send you copies of what I have ? It doesn't make me any difference. If you want them by e-mail I will probably send you one child at a time. That way you will have time to record them and wait for another. It is up to you as to how you want them. Just let me know .
I'll close for now and talk to you later,
LOLLY
PS They are probably still in Dekalb Co. on the Census Records for the state of Tenn. I will check and see.

I have a question regarding Andrew Jackson Garrison's 1st family.
      This is in my notes:
National Archives...Abstracts of A.J.Garrison pension records, deposition A, P 43-48. Glatha Jane Garrison
(2nd wife) stated that Andrew had been married 1st to Narcisse Pridy before the war...children by first wife

1-I believe this to be the marriage record on Sarah:
ancestry.com
Tennessee Marriages, 1851-1900

   Surname: KUNNELLS
Given name: JASPER
Maiden name of bride: GARRISON
Given Name: SARAH E.
Date of Marriage: 26 Dec 1867
Place: SMITH CO TN

2-I believe this record probably is the marriage information on Mattie or (Samantha Garrison):
ancestry.com
Tennessee Marriages 1851-1900

Surname: MASON
Given name: JAMES N.
Brides Maiden name: GARRISON
Given Name: SAMANTHA
   05 Sep 1872
SMITH CO.,TN

3-Matilda Jane information in my notes:
1860 Census Dekalb County Tennessee listed as 9 years old. She does not appear on the 1870 Census with her
family...could be married by then at 19. However: National Archives...abstract of Andrew Jackson Garrison's pension records Deposition A p.43-48..Glatha Jane Allison Garrison (2nd wife) states that there were three children from first marriage, one died. She names Sarah Reynold and Mattie Mason as living....but does not name Matilda nor does she name a son, Andrew,Jr.

Sandy, so many of my records are in storage and I was wondering if you have the information on the 1870
Census. Does is list a son, Andrew? I'm just trying to document all the records that I can. Please send
the census information if you can.
In my effort to document the records, I'm really having a lot of luck with ancestry.com.... Please let me know what your thoughts are on this. I wonder why Glatha Jane didn't mention an Andrew or a 4th child? Does this Andrew,Jr. really belong to our Andrew Jackson Garrison or someone else?
Ellie
PS I did tell you that I have the following didn't I?
Appears to be a remarriage for Narcissa Pridy Garrison:
Tennessee Marriages 1851-1900 (ancestry.com)

   Notes

1870 Smith County Tennessee Census p.6 Andrew is listed as 9 yrs.born Tennessee. His birth would be approximately 1961 according to census. He was probably born in Dekalb County, Tennessee rather than near Nashville.
