I'm compiling this same family for a friend, but the most help that I have found has been in the Upper Cumberland Gen. publications ("UCGA"), especially Vol XIV, #1 (Spring 1989); page 38: "The John Dyer Family". Copies of it should be available from Ft Wayne through The PERSI Index. The Burton's, Herrin's and Maynard's intermarried quite a bit with the Dyer family- in Jackson and Dekalb Cos TN.

Mahala was born 9 Feb 1844, in DeKalb County, Tennessee. Mahala was the daughter of Charles C. Burton and Sarah Elvira Dyer. Mahala died 8 Dec 1882 in DeKalb County, Tennessee, at 38 years of age. He married Nancy Ellen Barr in Tennessee, in 1883.
"Nancy Ellen Barr was married twice. She married first 1)Ezekiel Maynard in which she bore him one son, Samuel Neeley (Maynard) Barr, born April 10, 1884. She divorced Ezekiel in 1884 in Smithville, Tennessee and by court order was given the legal right to retain her maiden name and complete control of her offspring, Samuel Neeley. Her father, Jacob C. E. R. Barr reared her son and therefore he was known as Samuel Neeley Barr, Sr., owner of S. N. Barr Hardware Store in Baxter, Tennessee. Samuel Neeley Barr was also postmaster at Baxter, Tennessee in 1929, an occupation of his grandfather;s and other family members as well. He was certainly well respected." (Lela Winfree)

She married 2)Bethel Alfred Martin in Tennessee, before 1897. Nancy died 13 Feb 1920 in Baxter, Putnam County, Tennessee, at 55 years of age. Her burial was after 13 Feb 1920 in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Baxter, Putnam County, Tennessee. Ezekiel married Harriet Bradford Bullington in Tennessee.

I am doing family history research on my deceased mother's line. Her mother was Sophronia Maynard, sister to your grandmother, Ruth Maynard.
The parameters of my research are: looking back from my mother's position to her direct line and sideward/laterally to her cousins. Your mother, Dorsa, was her cousin.
At this time, I am searching for the marriage record of Charles and Nancy. From the documentation I do have, I gather that they married ca 1931-1933. Can you give me the exact date? And is Oakland, Alameda County, the correct place?
If you could e-mail or call me ASAP (because of the upcoming July 1 changes in release of vital records to the public), I would appreciate it.

This has been a busy day for me on the pc (which is through my phoneline)...making myself finally get to the census project for our Haddock family reunion next Saturday. I think cell phone calls are those usually not accepted by the "privacy" feature on my phone.
Thanks very much for the marriage data. I have been looking in CA, having come across no Nevada reference for them. Several states are restricting access to vital records to immediate family members, legal representatives, etc. As of July 1, that will take effect in CA. I have all the other data you listed for Nancy.
As far as I know, there was no obit for Ezekiel. Most "ordinary" people didn't get one back in those days; some didn't even get a proper marker/headstone.
I don't know of a Bible, but if I should hear of one, will let you know. The first census I have for Andrew Mainard is 1850, DeKalb County, pg 94, entry 681-681.
The Garrisons are about the last family on my list for researching. One of these days (and I hope before too much longer), I will start my family history compilation. Will be glad to send you a copy...if and when it ever gets done...although much of it covers my mother's direct line and might not be of interest to you.
But, I will most likely be back to you with another question or two in the near future.
