Jacob's first wife was a widow when they married, we have not yet found her name, in 1923 the church records of Torrig, Birket, Maribo, Denmark from the years 1751 - 1779 were searched looking for a name. They were married for one year (according to the researcer in 1923.) She was buried on 28 mar 1784 in Torrig at the age of 48 years. Her first husband might have been named Jorgen. The church records in 1871 list a step-daughter of Jacob Borchard with the name of Margrethe Jorgensdatter.
Maren and her husband left Birket around 1815, there are two children listed in the parish records of Birket before 1815.
