RESEARCH NOTE: Revolutionary War Veteran from Waterbury unit Josiah was first at East Hartford. About 1673 he removed to Middletown, where he died 12 September 1690. His first marriage, to Elizabeth Andrews, and the children born to them presumably at East Hartford, are not in the Ricker compilation of Connecticut records. His marriage to Elizabeth Wetmore and their children born at Middletown are recorded at Middletown.The name was later changed to Atkins.His will is dated 1 March 1690. Inventory by John Hall Senior, Nathaniel Stow and Samuel Stow, 1 January 1691. The Wetmore genealogy quotes Dr. Savage, 1:19: "Josiah, Middletown d. Sept. 12, 1690, leaving 7 chil. minors. Sarah aged 16; Abigail 14; Solomon 12; Josiah 10; Benjamin 8; Ephraim 6; and Eliz. 3; but by a former w. thot to be an Andrews, others had rec. their portions, name Thomas, Samuel, and Eliz. Gilman, who perhaps dec. bef. the m. 8 Oct. 1678, with Eliz. Whitmore, mo. of the young ones for wh. and her chil. he made provision in his will a few days before his death."
