                   Harmon was sometimes referred to as Harmon "The Regulator" Cox.  He wascondemned to hang by the British for treason.  He avoided the noose bypledging allegiance to England and was pardoned by the King.  In thespirit of the Boston Tea party, the Regulators rebelled against thecolonial government over unfair taxation.  Harmon's cousin, HermonHusband was the principal agitator.  In May 1771, British Governor,Robert Tryon, defeated the Regulators at the Battle of Alamance, NorthCarolina.  In June 1771, the six Regulators who refused to swearallegiance to England were hung at the Orange County courthouse.Harmon's brothers, Solomon, Thomas and William were all Regulators
