    Warling book - pg. 155:  "The Mankato Free Press on Monday gives the following
    account of him: 'John A. Beck of 422 West Sixth Street died at his home in
    this city, last night.  He was born Septenmber 13, 1884, at St. James.  Mr.
    Beck is survived by his wife and several small children.  He is the son of
    John Edward Beck of St. James.
    'The funeral will be held from the residence, 422 West Sixth Street
    tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 and from the Swedish Lutheran church at two o'clock.
    Rev O.J. Arthur will conduct the services.,  The remains will be laid to rest
    in the Swedish Lutheran Cemetery of this city.'"

                       AT the funeral of Frances Mae Beck Gillings on 28 Sept 1992, I learned from her
    daughter
    Gail Crawford that Selma Hultgren Beck had had a first-born child that survived
    only 3 days.
    Jeannette E. Tripp Beck, also at the funeral, recalled hearing Selma refer to a
    first-born child that did not survive.  Gail Crawford is at this time
    continuing to research her files to find more definitive data about the child.
    She says she has a picture - handed down in the possessions of her mother - of
    the deceased child.

    The Warling Family Geneology, pg. 156, lists Hulda Dorothy Beck.  It is most
    probable that she is buried in St. James, Watonwan, Minnesota.

                       Frances was living with her daughter Gail and her husband Fred Crawford  at 959
    Abe Way, Monterey Park, CA until about 18 or 19 September when she entered a
    hospital in Monterey Park.  She died at about 5 p.m. on the 23rd at the
    hospital.  Her wishes were that her body be cremated and her ashes spread at
    sea.  The cremation was scheduled for 29 September 1992, after her funeral
    service was held on the 28th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2009 S. Garfield
    Ave., Monterey Park, CA. Nephew Stanley P. Beck was in attendance at the
    funeral and received the above information about Frances' death and cremation
    from her daughter Gail and son Earl.  The disposition of her ashes at sea
    awaits the action of a company that specializes in such matters.  Earl said
    that after the deed was accomplished, the family - or he - would get a postcard
    naming the date and place of the spreading of Frances' ashes.
