    Andrew was president of Miami University from 1871 to 1873 and a professor in the English department there for many years. He served as president of Davidson College in North Carolina from 1877 to 1885. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

    Charles received his LL.B. from the University of Virginia in 1880. In 1908, he received an honorary degree of LL.D. from Miami University. Charles was also a member of Beta Theta Pi and Phi Beta Kappa. He practiced law in Cincinnati from 1771 to 1903, when he accepted a professorship in law at Indiana University. He served as dean of the law school there from 1918 to 1925.
