%Andrew Jacobs was the youngest son of John Jacobs and Elizabeth Coleman Jacobs. He worked in the Bingham copper mines and the gases caused him to have gum desease and he lost his teeth at an early age. He also rode the range as a young man, gathering wild horses. I was told he was chased by Indians and he and a friend rode for their very lives right into town. The indians followed but men from town showed force and the indians retreated. After his marriage to Elizabeth Hannah Clough they eventually moved from Lehi, Utah to Sylmar, California for his wife's health. He worked at the Sylmar Olive Factory until his retirement at 65 years of age. He and his wife had 5 children.

%Elizabeth worked as a servant at Hammer's boarding house. Her mother left her father while they were in England - he was an alcoholic. Elizabeth sang with the Salvation Army in England. Elizabeth had 5 live births, Elfrieda, Zilpha, Ford, John, and Jane. Later they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, June 25, 1945.

%The following is part of a letter written by Elizabeth Hannah Clough Jacobs to her sister-in- law, Hannah Marie Jacobs after the death of her youngest child, Jane Elizabeth Jacobs, age 9 yrs. (died of a ruptured appendix):

%It just seems like everybody knew her, she could make friends with every-one. Zilpha has sure been brave. I don't know what we would have done without her. She said, "Mother I have often wondered what it would be when Jane grew up if things keep on going the way they are. She says (Zilpha) going to dances she sees quite a bit of girls smoking, drinking and half dressed, but you know Hannah, we don't think our children will grow up to indulge in those things but they are great temptations and as Zilpha says, if you don't, they don't want your company. I am very thankful to have Zilpha although I must not think too much of her but since Jane has left us she seems much more to me. My boys are very good. Ford is a good boy. John is young yet but he is a good boy. Ford can't do enough for us, while one has been taken I am thankful that I have three left. Andrew takes it hard, he just loved Jane so much, he wouldn't go anywhere that children were not invited. Maybe we thought too much of her. She has had anything a child could have. It was her birthday 15th of April, she had a party, there were 16 little girls. We carried out a color scheme of Orchid and Yellow and when we had the table all fixed Jane didn't have a dress to go with it so Zilpha went and got her pretty yellow dress to carry it through. The table was beautiful and she was so happy. Uncle Silas gave her a watch. She thought so much of it.

%Hannah I can't tell you everything. I was just thinking of the beautiful flowers. I never saw such flowers. Where Ford works they sent a beautiful wreath. One from the school, also another from her class. The Church gave one, also the Relief Society. Well, I can't tell you, but there were 87 floral pieces. Zilpha wrote cards to all of them. Roy said he thought uncle Frank had beautiful flowers but he never saw such pieces as Jane had. We put her away very nice. Her casket was pale pink, lined with pink silk. She had silk underwear in pink, her dress was pale green and pink ankle socks. She just looked like a doll. She was put in a cement vault sealed tight.

%Well I must quit, I guess I could write all day. All I want to talk about is Jane. I miss her so in the mornings after they have all gone to work, but time is a great healer. I don't want to feel too bad, what's our lose is Heaven's gain and we know she is alright. She has been such a happy child never sick, always willing to do anything, I never had to ask her twice to go anywhere. The neighbors says they never saw such a happy child. Everyone seemed to love her. It has been a shock to lots of people. So many didn't know she was sick. While she was in bed she set up to cut out paper dolls, on Sunday after her operation she said well Mother I don't have anything to do, but that was just her, she must always be busy.

%Well I must close. Remember us in your prayers for we sure need them, so I will close

% From your Loving Bro and Sis
% Andrew and Lizzie and Family

%P.S. Remember us to Sack. This letter will do for all of you. I have explained things the best I can so let Sack read the letter.

Elizabeth Hannah Clough Jacobs was also called "Lizzie" by her close friends and family members.

NOTE: Interment - Oakwood Cemetery, Chatsworth, Calif. - for Andrew Jacobs, Elizabeth Hannah Clough Jacobs, Jane Elizabeth Jacobs.
