NAME: John Corlett McKNEALE or McNEIL NOTES: 1. At an early age, John became an apprentice to his Uncle, a shoemaker. 2. John had a desire to become a sailor, and at the age of fourteen, went to sea as a cabin boy. 3. John sailed the seas for eight years and at the age of 22 returned to the Isle of Man and took up the shoemaking business, giving private music lessons on the side. 4. In January of 1852 John, his wife Margaret and son John Edward with two of John Corlett's brothers, William and Richard, boarded a ship for Liverpool, England. They stayed in Liverpool for some time and then John, his wife and son boarded a ship named the Camillus to go to America. 5. John set up a shoe shop in St. Louis. 6. John and Mary Jane lived in Banum township, a suburb of St. Louis, where he made shoes and plated straw hats for plantation owners and for their slaves.

BIRTH: Birthplace also listed as Holy Well, Flintshire, Wales. DEATH: Mary Jane died of bronchial pneumonia. MARRIAGE: The obituary of Mary Jane indicates that her marriage to John McNeil was solomnized by Pres. Lorenzo Snow. NOTE: At the time of her death, Mary Jane had forty-six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Besides her own children she reared a stepson and two grandchildren. IMMIGRATION: In March of 1849, Mary Jane went from Liverpool, England to New Orleans, Louisiana on the ship, "Hartley". Mary Jane was at the time 9 years of age according to ship records.
DEATH: The obituary for Thomas records him as having died and been buried in Kamas, Utah. NOTE: Thomas and Martha Ellen "Nellie" were the parents of 10 children. Two died before 1913.
NOTE: Mary Jane's youngest child was only four months old at the time of her death. DEATH: Mary Jane suffered with consumption for many years, when shortly before her death dropsy also set in and hastened her death.
NOTE: Joseph had seven children.
NOTE: Elizabeth was blind.
DEATH: Died from heart trouble. NOTE: David and Mary Jane had four children. The oldest was fourteen and the youngest sixteen months old at the time of David's death.
He married Mary Jane Quinn 14 Dec 1854 at St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri . Mary Jane Quinn was born at Liverpool, Lancashire, England 30 Mar 1840 daughter of Thomas Quinn and Mary Ann Hamilton .
