NOTES: 1. Joseph joined the LDS Church when he was a small boy and followed the migration of the saints to Utah in the Spring of 1847. He was appointed driver for Orson Pratt's wagon and did the cooking. He hunted buffalo for meat for the company of saints. 2. Joseph was numbered among Orson Pratt's advanced company, arriving in Salt Lake Valley on 22 July 1847.

He married Mary Caroline Allred 6 Dec 1840 at Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois . Mary Caroline Allred was born at Memphis, Bedford, Tennessee 9 Dec 1824 daughter of Isaac Allred and Mary Calvert .
