Daniel HILL

Birth:
Abt 1753
Skipness, Argyllshire, Scotland
Notes:
This individual has the following other parents in the Ancestral File:
William /HILL/ (AFN:99KQ-4D) and Janet T /CAMPBELL/ (AFN:9JP8-G3)

Janet Taylor Campbell was sealed to William Hill, father of Daniel in the
Endowment House 12 Oct 1870. It is apparent that Janet Taylor was
first married to a Campbell. Is she the mother of Mary Campbell or wife
of Daniel Hill? Or is she the mother of Daniel Hill? Did she marry as a
second wife, William Hill, father of Daniel? The records of Skipness
commence about 1783 thus, the solution to this problem cannot be found
in existing registers of that place.

A former researcher has stated that Mary Campbell b. 26 Jan 1755 at
Greenock, Renfrew., Scot., daughter of Walter Campbell and Forence
Wilson is wife of Daniel Hill. This I cannot accept without proof. Our
Mary's ancestry may extend back in Skipness for generations, but there
are no existing registers to so state. The names Walter and Florence do
not appear in the immediate descendants of Daniel Hill and Mary
Campbell; and Walter Campbell and Florence Wilson had a second
daughter named Mary which would all tend to point to the conclusion that
this is not our lineage. fb (Frances Baker)

St. George baptisms do not list Isobel Hill 23 Oct 1877. On 27 Oct
1960, Isobel Hill was baptized in the St. George Temple and other
blessings were reconfirmed. Isabell Hill was also baptized 26 May 1891
and endowed 29 May 1891 in Logan Temple BK F, p. 79 #2880.

Nauvoo End. Book B p 268 #1583 has Elizabeth (Currie) Hill born 1 Dec
1777; Sealing record shows her birth as 15 Nov 1777. Her father's, John
Currie, record book shows her birth as 15 Nov 1775. Robert Currie, her
younger brother was born 23 Jan 1777. Obviously, she gave the wrong
date when she was endowed and sealed. Archives and Temple records
were checked. Parish Reg. gives Alexander Sr. birthdate as 10 Oct 1779.

CURRIE, also spelled CURRY
BRYCE, also spelled BRICE

Alexander was apprenticed as a sailor boy at an early age. He fought in some important battles such as the Battle of the Nile, August 1798. He emigrated to Upper Canada in April 1821 and purchased land there. In 1860, he helped settle in Maughn's Fort (Wellsville), Cache, Utah. All seven of his children grew to maturity.
