Notes:
Nicolai sold his land in the spring of 1857 and made preparations to join the "Saints in Zion." The Sørensens traveled from Copenhagen to England via steamship, then across England by rail to Liverpool where they booked passage on the Westmoreland for the trip to America. After a rigorous seven weeks on the Atlantic, they landed in Philadelphia. From there, the family traveled by train to Iowa City, where they were outifitted with a covered wagon for the final leg of the journey to the Great Salt Lake Valley. taken from Isaac Sorensen's, "History of Mendon," Publishers Press, Salt Lake City, 1988, p. xv.
