Robert de MORTAIGNE, (COUNT)
Plantagenet Ancestry, Eng. 116, p. 4, 8; Dict. of Nat'l Biog., Eng. Pub. A, v. 39, p. 117, v. 61, p. 293. Note: the records state it is possibel Robert also had a son "Nigel". In some sources Robert is referred to as the Earl of cornwall, but as pointed out in the Dict of Nat'l Biog (Eng. Pub. A), he was undoubtedly the greatest landowner of all the lords during the reign of William the Conqueror; it is not likely he received the title of Earl of Cornwall.
