Crowned in 1272. Famous Law-giver. Spent most of his life conquering the Scotch, his policy delayed the union of the two kingdoms for 300 years. Did little to improve the relations with France; at home he improved Parliament by restricting power of the Crown, taxes levied only by Parliament. Tried to destroy the Feudal system, limit power of the church.
