Married Eleanore Queen of England 11 May 1152.
First English ruler of the Palagenet Family, became king in 1154. Ruled until 1189.
Introduced trial by jury and circuit courts.
Made Anglo-Saxon law the common law rather than the revised Roman law which had been used up until this time.

In 1912 Leopold V, Duke of Austria, seized him and imprisoned him. Henry IV released him later after a ransom had been paid.
He was killed in 1199 during the siege of a French castle.
