Notes:
I did not expect such a quick response to my message
as your request was all of three years old.
I am part of the Clan that stayed rooted in Scotland,
my full name is George LOCKHART LIVINGSTONE Peddie, 60 years old, a retired
Police Inspector and I stay with my wife Mary in Dalkeith a town just south
of Edinburgh. We have two sons, neither married but both have flown the coop
- Alexander is in London and Gordon is in Galashiels a small town in the
Scottish Borders.
My Grandfather George Lockhart Livingstone moved
from Rutherglen to Dalmeny near South Queensferry, (beside the Forth Rail
Bridge) in 1903. He was a shale miner and his family expanded until there
were 12 of them. The eldest also carried on the name of John b. 1896 but he
was killed in action in the Battle of Toulgas, North Russia, on 11th
November, 1918, and since then the name was dropped. Only two of the family
still survive, my mother Georgina Lockhart b. 1909 and an aunt Elizabeth
b.1916. My mother was widowed in 1987 but still lives in her own little
house in Queensferry, very independant and determined to stay that way (a
Livingstone trait I am told). I will pass on your message to her shortly.
The decendants of the family are concentrated in the
West Lothian area of Central Scotland but there are others in America,
Australia , New Zealand and that most foreign of lands - England. I will
attach a photo taken about 1925 of my Grandparents with some of their
children - hope it gets to you as this is an early steam driven computer -
your attachment did not appear at this end but I can obtain a copy of the
marriage certificate from a local site.
Although I have been researching my family tree for
several years, it was mainly targetted on the Peddie name and its only
recently that I began to look at the other side. I have a copy of the
Marriage Register entry for John Livingston 24 yrs and Agnes Lockhart 21 yrs
dated 18th October, 1864, which shows his occupation as Canal Boatman and
her as Farm Servant. Neither could write as they have signed the entry with
their marks (hence the spelling of the surname with and without the e).Their
address was Cuilhill, Old Monkland now a district of Coatbridge,
Lanarkshire. The witnesses were William and Mary Lockhart, I presume her
brother and sister in law. His parents are John Livingston (joiner -
deceased) and Flora Livingston ms Campbell.
                         Her parents are William Lockhart
(coal miner) and Jane Lockhart ms Aird both still living at that time. The
remainder of the Lockhart family that I have found are Mary b.1847,
Elizabeth b.1852 and William (still to trace b).
Over the next few weeks I will be looking for more
details which would be of interest to you which is comparitively easy as I
live a short distance from Register House which holds all the records for
Scotland, if there are any facts you require just list them and I will check
them out.
This was written by my (John Peter Livingstone's) second cousin once removed, George Lockhart Livingstone Peddie of Dalkieth, (a Scottish town just south of Edinburgh), has a copy of the marriage registry for Johns parents.

tHIS jOHN lIVINGSTONE LIVED AT 6 mILL sTREET rUTHERGLEN SAYs gEORGE pEDDIE

Linda and I visited Rutherglen 4 June 2006 and saw the West Rutherglen Parish Church (with what I believe is thee attactched masnse that my great grandparens were married in.We could see where Gerogina Mitchell would have lived just almost accross the [present Glasgow Road] street east of the church while John' parents once lived just a block south [6 Mill Street] or so [today Glasgow Road becomes Mill Street as it processds south of hte West Rutherglen church.

John Livingstone of 6 Mill Street dies in a house fire on New Years Day 1898 [I think]. George Peddie suspects he was drinking and the fire went unnoticed. He dies in the hospital katter in the day of burns to his chest and head.
