History of Ebenezer Brown
OCCUPATION: Farmer - 1850; Postmaster; Stockman NOTES: 1. Ebenezer and his second wife, Phoebe, were part of the Mormon Battalion. They left Phoebe's children with Ebenezer's oldest daughter, Harriet, and her husband, Oliver Stratton. Phoebe worked as a laundress. Ebenezer and Phoebe were reunited with their family in Fall of 1849, after helping to build the city of San Diego in California. 2. Ebenezer volunteered for the Mormon Battalion at Camp of Zion on the Missouri River. 3. Ebenezer was in Mormon Battalion 2nd Savg Co. A 4. Ebenezer and Phoebe worked in the gold fields at Sutter's Mill to earn enough money to return to Utah. 5. Ebenezer and Phoebe settled in the southeast corner of the Valley known as South Willow Creek, later changed to Draper. The city of Draper, Utah was named after Phoebe's brother, William Draper. 6. Ebenezer was one of the founders of Parowan in January 1851. 7. Ebenezer was called to help establish a town in Carson Valley, Nevada.
