The name "Hans" is a nickname for "John" in the German language. BIRTH DATE-PLACE: St. Matthew's Luthern Church, Hanover, York County, Pa.; FHL film #20499. The entry shows John Ebli is listed as having a son John Peter Ebli. The witnesses are John Henry Ginne and Peter Eerl and wife. CHILDREN: Emmanual Reformed Church records, Hanover, Pa.; FHL film #20499. Peter Ebli and Anna are listed as the parents of a John Eble, born 3 Jan. 1778, baptized 11 Jan, 1778. The witnesses are Matthew Eble and wife Christine. This record is also entered in the IGI In the 1790 Census of Manheim Twp., York County, Pennsylvania it shows Peter Apley living next to Matthias Apley and John Apley (I believe this John is the son of Matthias). In this Census of 1790, Peter has 3 sons under the age of 16, and 4 females (one is probably Peter's wife, and the other 3 his daughters). In the 1800 Census of York Co., Pa. in Manheim Twp., Peter Epley and his wife were listed as 26-45, with four teenage children, a boy and three girls ages 10-16 years. (I found the above documents of information during my research, then it was reconfirmed through the "Detroit Society for Genealogical Research Magazine" fall 1978 edition page 101, compiled by Frances Davis McTeer.") TAX LISTS: Peter is not on the 1771 Tax Lists in York County, Pennsylvania, the only ones listed in Manheim Twp were his father John Epley, brother Matthias Epley, and relative George Apfel. Peter is listed in the Tax Lists of 1779, 1780, 1789, 1790, 1798 in Manheim Twp., York County, PA., In the 1798 Federal Direct Tax for Manheim (list 2) shows Peter Epley as owner and occupant of a house valued at $60 and a 30 by 20 foot barn valued at $83 (no glass windows indicated for either structure), this property is adjoining Michael Newman and Thomas Kelly, he had a total valuation of $290. MILITARY: During the Revolutionary War Peter Eaplie was listed with his brother Matthew in the 7th Class in Capt. John Wampler's Co., York County Militia, 7 Dec. 1781 to 7 Feb. 1782. Abstracts of Adams County Pennsylvania Wills 1800-1826;Book C pg 46 Peter EPLEY, of Mount Joy Township, Adams County, PA. in weak condition. Wife: Anna Children: Henry, Catharina wife of John YEAGY, Elizabeth, Juliana. Executor: son-in-law John YEAGY. Witnesses: Christian WAMPLER, and Jacob HOKE. Written on Sept. 9, 1812; Probated July 23, 1818. Also copy of the Inventory of the Estate of Peter Epley filed Aug. 17th, 1818. Also the Account of John Yeagy the Executor of the Will of Peter Epley deceased, court dated on Aug. 20th, 1819. There are no Epley's living in Mt. Joy Twp in Adams County on the 1800 Census. But there is a Peter Epley and a Henry Epley living in Mt. Joy Twp. on the 1810 Census.
