BIRTH DATE & PLACE: In Mahala's application for a Confederate Pension she
            filed on May 19,1927, she syas that she is 76 years old and was
            born on May 26, 1851 in Missouri.  She says that she had resided
            in Texas for about 71 years.  She said that she had visited
            family for the better part of 1912 and 1913.  In truth, Bob, her
            husband as he was known, had become ill and finally died in Carter
            County, Oklahoma on the 8th of December 1913.  She said that she
            lived in Lampasas (now Mills) County for 32 years.  When she was
            asked for his enlistment date she said that he had enlisted about
            March 1st, 1864 and discharged about March 1st, 1867.  She said
            that he had served first with Captain W. H. Mullin, transferred
            to Capt. Jim Brown's command, then to Lieut. John H. Conner's.

MOTHER:  According to Mahala's death certificate, her mothers name was
            Caroline Young.  This information was given to me by Elizabeth
            Posey.  On the 1850, 1860, & 1870 Census George's wife is listed
            as Elizabeth.  I got Elizabeth's maiden name "Spangler" from
            Jeannie Marchello.  Several other researchers have also given her
            name as Spangler but I've never seen any documentation on this.
