North Carolina became a state in 1789 Rutherford County was formed in 1779 from Tryon County. Tryon County was formed in 1768 from Mecklenburg County, VA. Mecklenburg was formed from Anson Co. in 1762. Anson was formed from Bladen Co. in 1749. Bladen Co.was formed from New Hanover Co. in 1734. New Hanover was formed from Craven Co. in 1729. Craven was formed in 1705 from Archdale Precinct of Bath. Bath was an original county. Deed record dated 26 July 1775 Morris III bought 300 acres of land lyingon both sides of Little Hickory Creek, Tryon Co. Colony of NorthCarolina. This property is located almost 4 miles south of Shelby, NC and1 mile west of Sulpher Springs Methodist Church. Morris Roberts is listed on the 1782 tax rolls and the 1790 census and1800 census for Rutherford Co. NC NC State Supreme Court Case documents that shows Morris III's birthdateto be 1731/32. In 1800 Morris III deeded to his sons, Step and William Roberts, 200acres of land lying on the Little Hickory Creek Rutherford Co. (presentday Cleveland Co.) NC. Step Roberts, 6th son of Morris Roberts and second wife Elizabeth, islisted as the administrator of Morris III estate, 10 November 1828. Step and family moved to Fayette Co. AL about 1839. 1850 AL census Fayette Co.
Keziah and husband migrated to Tuscaloosa about 1832. After she died,her husband went onto Chickasaw Co. MS.
UNPROVEN It is UNPROVEN that Josiah is the father of Archilbald Roberst. 1850 AL census Tuscaloosa Co. Josiah Roberts, age 60 is living with AmosPleasant Roberts. Mary is not listed. Marriage bonds were posed in Rutherford Co., N.C. on September 1, 1803,for Mary Linsey and Josiah Roberts. Record #01267. Morris Roberts waslisted as bondsman. According to Eric Newsom, the Roberts family arrived in Tuscaloosa andFayette Counties of Alabama in the 1830's.
