"1696 John Roberts of Kilken, and Luce Hughes of the same were married the 25th Aug (Banns) The will of Hugh Kendrick clearly proves that his daughter,Lucy Hughes, married John Roberts and that they were living in Nannerch in 1704/05. Probably this John Roberts married first Lucy Hughes.  Daughter Margaret, baptized 18 Sept. 1697, son John baptized 14 Feb 1700, daughter Mary baptized 10 Mar 173l/32.
	Mary probably married her cousin Hugh Roberts, son of Hugh, on 19 July 1756. Both John's L.D.S. baptism and endowment record lists his wife as Ursula).  The marriage record and Luce's fathers will make it very clear that Luce was this John Roberts' wife.
MARRAIGE (2) A note in Howard S. Bennion's recordss reads: "John Roberts born 19 May 1664 married Ursala as a second marriage.  He died 1727, Cilcain.
No record of John and Ursala's marriage has been located.  HSB

A family group sheet submitted to the society in 1937 by the Bennion Family genealogist from data gathered by me in 1937 in Cilcain shows the husband on this sheet married instead to Elizabeth Simon.  HSB

EXPLANATION:
A Hugh Roberts married Elizabeth Simon 20 May 1728.  But the Cilcain Parish Register also records the marriage of Hugh Roberts and Lucy James in Cilcain 31 Jan 1718/19 and their fifth child was born 25 Feb 1727/8.  THe Parish record also shows a Lucy Roberts buried 9 Apr. 1771, thirteen years after the death of Hugh Roberts 31 Aug 1758

After careful study of the record at the time I felt sure then as I do now, after more study, that the eighteen year old Hugh born 5 Apr. 1700/1 married Lucy James in 1718/19.  Their first child was born about four months after their marriage.  This was a time when marriages of 18 to 20 year olds were not infrequent in that region.

I concluded that another Hugh Robert had married Elizabeth Simon, but I could not find the christening record of such another Hugh.  Since the child Hugh, born 25 Feb 1727/8 did not die and there is no record of his mother's burial, it is practically certain that the mother did not die.  Another Hugh Roberts married Elizabeth Simon.

I could not find the christening record of Lucy James.  I found no other James surname in the Cilcain register from 1680 to 1720.  In Nannerch I found the marriage 23 Sep 1707 of John James of Kilken and Catherine Griffith of Nannerch.  I found one James in Mold Parish and one in Whitford Parish of that time period.  An elderly church caretaker in Nannerch pointed to a clump of farm buildings about three miles away on the border line of Cilcain Parish and said to me that Jameses had been living there for many generations.  I did not find a record of them in the period 1690 to 1730.
