NOTES: 1. John left Egerton in 1623 and renounced his church orders, siding with the independents. 2. He was called to succeed Rev. Henry Jacob as Pastor of the First Independent Church in Southwark, London in 1624. 3. In 1632 Bishop Laud's warrant officer invaded John's home where Rev. Lothrop and about 50 of his flock were secretly worshiping. 4. John was taken to Clink Prison, Newgate, London on 22 Apr 1632. 5. He visited his dying wife, Hannah Howse, briefly in 1633. 6. Early in 1634, all but John were released on bail. 7. John, the leader of the Independent group, was deemed too dangerous to be set at liberty. 8. On 24 April 1634, his petition for liberty to go into foreign exile was granted. 9. He was released only to comfort his dying wife who died in 1633.
