Henry DOWNS
NAME: Henry DOWNS, Sr. NOTES: 1. "Downs and Allied Families" lists children and extended families for Henry's children Henry Jr., William, Jonathan, and Joseph. 2. It states that "He was of the Cheshire branch of the English family deDunes or Downes and served in the English Navy before coming to America, early in the 18th century." 3. Henry Sr. Lived in Prince George Co., MD., then Pennsylvania, then Orange Co. VA (the part which became Augusta Co. VA ). He was appointed Sheriff there in 1747. Moved from Virginia to NC abt 1757. They then moved from NC to Georgia abt 1761, then from Georgia to South Carolina "at an advanced age."

NAME: Henry DOWNS, Jr. NOTES: 1. In his will, Henry Jr. does not mention children Henry Douglas and William (only Thomas, Samuel, Jane Robinson, and Milly Bruster) perhaps because Henry Douglas and William moved to Mississippi. He left Thomas 210 acres plus another 50 acres and all his wearing apparel. He left Samuel 500 acres plus another 119 acres and a rifle. He left Jane his feather bed and bed clothes. He left Milly a chest of drawers and a blue and white coverlid. (Will Book C, p. 22, 1797)

NAME: George DOWNS, Sr.
NOTES: 1. In 1783 he moved to Laurens District, South Carolina and assisted in organizing the District. 2. He died there and was buried near his former home on Raborn (Rabon) Creek. (HSF)
NOTES: 1. In records of Wilkes Co., Georgia. In 1784 Ambrose Downs, planter, wife Sabert ______. Surgeon in 6th Ga. Troops, certified list, promoted to Major. Awarded a land grant in Mississippi and located there. (HSF)
He married Jane [Lady] Douglas Abt 1727 at England . Jane [Lady] Douglas was born at Douglas Castle, Scotland Abt 1705 .
