                   NOTES:
    1. There is a tradition in this family that three brothers, of the name of Lanning, came originally from Wales, and settled on Long Island.  They removed, soon afterward, to New Jersey.
    2. One bought land in the northern part, another in the southern section of the colony, and Robert, from whom the Lannings of this part of the colony descend, settled in Maidenhead, now Lawrenceville.
    3. His name is found among the grantees of the land on which to build a church in that village, in 1698-1699.
