    1. Peter, born 9/10 July 1786, Fayette Co, Pa, died 12 Mar 1874, Sullivan
Co, Mo. Married 1) 24 Dec 1807 in Breckinridge Co, KY, Millie Abbott; married
    2) 25 Nov 1845, in Knox Co, Ill, Mrs. Rebecca Ramsey, widow.
    1. Peter Peckenpaugh, Jr, was born 9 Jul 1786, in Fayette Co, Pa, and was
    christened George Peter Beckenbach, son of George Peter and Barbra Beckenbach;
witnesses were John George Brenner and wife, Anna Maria, (from Births and
Baptisms 1782-1815, by Rev. John William Webber, Zion Lutheran Church,
Greensburg, Westmoreland Co, Penns, copied by Della Reagon Fischer). Peter died
12 Mar 1874, in Sullivan Co, Mo; was buried in the Springer Cemetery, near
Prairie Chapel. (His cemetery stone gives date of birth as 10 Jul 1786). He
died at the home of his daughter, Rebecca Springer. His son, Elijah, came from
Harrison Co, Iowa, to be at his bedside during his last illness.
Peter married 1) 24 Dec 1807, in Breckinridge Co, Ky, Miss Millie Abbit. The
bond was signed by Peter Peckenpaugh, Jr, and by Henry Peckenpaugh, and the
license issued 21 Dec 1807. The ceremony was performed by Jo Huston, J.P, at 12
o'clock 24 Dec 1807. It was stated in the license application that Millie had
neither parent, nor guardian within the commonwealth of Kentucky.
Millie was born 20 Mar 1788, in Jefferson Co, Ky, at Abbott's station, a
thousand acre tract patented to William Spangler, 2 Apr 1781 (Bk A, p 201); and
died 12 Nov 1840, probably in Warren Co, Ill, though no cemetery stone has been
found. The dates of birth and death are from the family Bible of Peter and
Millie, which is now in the possession of a descendant, Mrs G. Wesley Sizemore.
Millie was the daughter of John Abbott and Margaret Spangler Abbott, the
widow of William Spangler. (Deed of gift 6 Dec 1797, Jefferson Co, Ky, John
    Abbott to his daughter, Mildred, a negro girl named, Jenny, and a black mare;
deed 7 Aug 1799, Jefferson Co, Ky, from John Abbott and Margaret his wife, to
David Spangler, 100 acres, it being part of the land held in right of the dower
of the said Margaret as widow and relict of William Spangler; and also the deed
11 Oct 1838, in Clark Co, Ind, between Peter Peckinpaugh and Milly Peckinpaugh,
his wife or Warren Co, Ill, by Elijah Peckinpaugh, their attorney, in fact, and
Hugh Gilworth and Rebecca Gilworth, his wife, of Clark Co, to Milburn T.
Abbott, 90 acres, where Margaret Abbott now lives, on Camp Creek, the said
Milly and Rebecca being entitled under the will of their father, the said John
Abbott. This will, though it was recorded, has been lost). When the Abbotts
    left KY is not known.
It appears that John and Margaret Abbott left their older children in
Kentucky. Milly may have become acquainted with Peter Peckinpaugh through Henry
Peckinpaugh, Peter's uncle, though only 4 years older, who was married to
Catherine Spangler. How or whether Catherine Spangler was related to William
    Spangler is not known.
John Abbott served in the Illinois Regiment in 1782 under General George
    Rogers Clark.
Peter's long life span 1786-1874 would have enabled him to answer many of
the questions that puzzzle us, now. How we wish those questions had been
asked, and the answers handed down to us
Born 15 years before George Beckenbaugh, who wrote the history of the
family in Maryland, and 25 years before Sanford Pickenpaugh, who told about the
founding of Morgantown, Peter was born in Pennsylvania, and grew up in
Kentucky. He must have know a great deal of family history.
He was said to have had reddish hair, rather long; and false teeth which did
not fit well, this when he was old. At that time, however, false teeth were far
from perfect. No doubt they seldom fit well.
His descendants have kept good records. Mrs. Clawson, like Mrs. Jewell,
worked on lines other than her own, but she provided very complete records on
the descendants of Rebecca and George; Rebecca's daughter, Millinder's
descendants were compiled by Mrs. George W. Smith; Mrs John Mayfield compiled
the descendants of Absolom, and Mrs. Shirley Perkins not only sent Elijah's
Bible records, but provided leads to descendants of every one of his 9
    surviving children, an
