Life History of Amos Pratt and Mary Bachelor extract: Amos Pratt, son of Nathan Pratt and Sarah Philby, was christened 14 Oct 1821, in the Studham Parish church, Bedford, England. The Parish register entry shows Nathan as a "laborer" and as a carpenter. Amos joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was baptized 13 Dec 1847, at age 28 by Elder Lewis, becoming a member of the Studham Branch, British Mission. His first wife was Esther ______. She was baptized 12 July 1846, by Priest Lewis at age of 27 at Studham. At this writing, it has not been determined what happened to his wife Esther. She either died or divorced him, for on 9 Mar 1849, Amos married Mary Bachelor Labrum. Mary Bachelor was born 12 Mar 1817, at Flamstead, Hertford, England. Mary's first husband was Thomas Labrum (Labram) by whom she had John, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Thomas. Mary and Eliza, born 9 Nov 1849, and Nathan, born 13 May 1853, by Amos Pratt. At this writing, it has not been determined what happened to Thomas, Mary's first husband. Amos, Mary and their family lived in Studham until 1854 when they moved to Kensworth, Hertford. Here, Mary was a hat maker, or worked in a hat shop. Mary divorced Amos because of cruelty. Mary and Nathan emigrated to Utah prior to 1868. Of her children, it is known that: Eliza Pratt emigrated to Utah and married Thomas King. Elizabeth Labrum and her husband, William Cutler, emigrated to Utah, and lived in Lehi, Utah. They reared Eliza's eleventh child, Reuben, from age 8 after Eliza's death. Nathan Pratt emigrated to Utah with his mother. Thomas Labrum emigrated to Utah. He became a sheep herder and lived part time with the Cutlers. He died at Magna, Utah, 17 Oct 1915. Mary remarried in Utah to _________ "Daddy" Camp, a candy maker. Mary died 28 March 1889. Deseret News extract: Lehi, 4 Apr 1931 - Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Nathan Pratt, 77, Utah pioneer, who died of influenza in a Provo Hospital 1 April. For a number of years, Mr. Pratt had been watchman for the Lehi plant of the Utah-Idaho Sugar Co. Mr Pratt was born in Luton, Beverdshire, England, 13 May 1853, the son of Amos and Mary Bachelor Pratt. When 13 yrs old, he immigrated to the U.S., arriving in Utah in 1866. He moved to Lehi in 1895 and has lived there since that time. In 1892 he married Elizabeth Yates in Provo, who bore him eight children, he having had two children by a previous wife. Besides his widow, he is survived by 10 children: Mrs Mary Eliza Evans, S.L.; Mrs Ruby Fanny Rowley, Murtaugh, Idaho; Mrs Youle Keith, LaValle, Missouri; Orson T, Albert LeGrande, and William E. Pratt, Lehi; Robert E. Pratt, McGill, Nev; Mrs Ella Nielsen and Mrs Albert Brown, Lehi; Fae Pratt, S.L. Speakers at the services were Bishops Andrew Fjeld and James H. Gardner, Bishop G. Henry Erickson presided. Interment was in the Lehi Cemetery.
