BIRTH-BAILEY BOOK; in possession of Robert Bailey, Lake Oswego, OR; OBITUARY:A.W. Bailey Dead Sunday afternoon, A.W. Bailey, who has been confined to his home for the past four years, underwent a change showing that his system was breaking down and indicating that the end was near. The children were telegraphed for, Mrs. R. F. Kountz and Mrs. Ella Bailey coming up Sunday evening and B. L. Bailey arriving Tuesday evening. Wednesday evening, January 17 at about 6 o'clock death came to the sufferer's relief, while all the immediate family were with him. Abner Woodman Bailey was born Jan. 23, 1825, in Sutton, N. H. At 21 years he married Minerva Twiss. Of this union one child was born, now Mrs. M. T. Williams, the mother dying six months later. In 1852 he was married to Julia T. Clough who, with their children, Mrs. R. F. Kountz and Berton L. Bailey, are left to mourn. Dorrance E. Bailey, a son older than Berton, was killed by lightening a few years ago. In 1865 deceased came to Black River Falls and in 1873 came to Greenwood, where he has since resided and until he lost the use of his lower limbs four years ago, was engaged in saw mill and sash and door work, and was always considered a first class workman. It was part of his doctrine that" whatever was worth doing was worth doing well." He was a believer in the dignity, nobility and the possibilities of the human family and was known as a disbeliever in the doctrine of total depravity. In this belief, of which he was fully convinced after much study, he died. The funeral occurs this Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence, Rev. T. G. Owen officiating. The internment will take place in the family lot in the Greenwood cemetery.(00-C042-04)
